Great question Yo, and if I may I will add to it...

I too am really interested in the Bushwackers. I'm the kind of guy who keeps their truck for 8 to 10 years. Both of my old Nissan 4x4 Hardbodies came with the Nissan black plastic flares.

My question is exactly how do the Bushwackers apply to the truck? What is the hardware- plastic or metal? Do holes need to be drilled or what? anything you can to define how they go on and the hardware used to attach them would be appreciated.

Both my 4x4 Hardbodies started to show rust first around the fender flares where the winter salt and slush was able to pack in and hide, where as all the rest of the body was fine. I really don't want to add on the Bushwackers if they are only going to promote rust over the years.

 

I've had mine on for almost 6 months now and they are still just as tight as day one. They attach with metal clips on the fender lip and then the flares screw to the clips. They also use a couple existing screws inside the fender. As for Quads question, I do think that they will be a place for rust to promote, just like the hardbodies if you never remove them to clean behind them. So what I plan to do is just take them off when I do a major wax detail to wash and wax the body under the flares so nothing builds up under there. Other than that my only issue was wether or not I really like them black or if I should paint them. But I have decided to keep them black. So I say get em, they make the truck look very rugged. But plan to pull them and clean behind them a couple times a year and they won't harm anything. Hope that helps.

Yes QWIKWHIP your truck looks great with the flares in black. Very rugged. However I think removing them to clean underneath is more work than most owners are willing to put in. For those who live in the South they are sweet. BTW what wheels are those?? I love em.

I have the ATS flares. I know that you either love them or hate them. We had a Titan meet here several months ago, just before I installed them and everyone was saying it would look like an Avalanche. The pictures don't do them justice. I really like them and they flow with the lines of the Titan very well. I did get the ones with the V8 cutout, I was bummed at first but as soon as I installed them I changed my mind. I couldn't picture the truck without them now.

Qwik? Don't they come with a clear strip that fits between the flare and the body? That seals it? My Toyota LC had flares with a seal.

 

The Bushwhacker flares look nice...

but they don't make them for the beds WITHOUT the lock box!! I sure do wish they would correct this oversight. QWIKWHIP - your truck looks very, very nice. What kind of wheels are those? I like 'em!! David.

 

Thanks for the comments guys. The flares do come with a black rubber strip that goes against the body. But there is still plenty of room for stuff to get behind them from inside the wheel well. I think next weekend I will be pulling them off and waxing the truck. I'll take some detailed pics. Oh, and my wheels are Enkie RT-6 in 20"x9".

Little late to reply, but mine have held up great so far too. Had them on for about 5 months or so and zero problems. They do a great job of protecting the paint with oversized wheels.

 

oh, and I'm too lazy to take them off and clean behind them....out of site, out of mind . I guess I'll be the guinea pig to see if they rust back there after 5 yrs or so, but I'm not all that worried about it.

I have a "mini-lift". It's the PRG 2" front leveling kit and PRG 1" rear blocks.

The BW flares only come black. You will have to take them to a body shop if you choose to go the painted route.

Unfortunatly Bushwacker doesn't make them with out the lock box. However, they can still be used, it will just have the seem in it. I bought mine off ebay for under $300 unpainted. I think for paint you will have to take them to a local body shop. The ATS flares offer the option without the box and painted. I just don't like the look of them as much as the bushwackers.

I saw some pics of your truck on other threads but none showing the driver side. Any particular reason why you only show the one side of your truck in the pics?(does it look that bad?) :rofl: j/k

Actually I do have the lock box. The only reason I have all my pics from that angle is cuz they are all while parked in the driveway and I can get a better shot from that side. That's all, lol But here's a pic of the driver side anyway.

O4DRUNNER....thanks for the info: I Can wait a month or so.

The reason why i need the set of fender flares is my 22" rims & tires slightly stick out pass the fender. In Hawaii we have this safety inspection called "recon" and one of the criteria is your tires can not exceed the outter fender. The safety inspection is a ONE time deal as long as you don't do any modification prior to the inspection.

It is an expensive upgrade but as long as I can pass the fenders will be coming off:upsidedow

I guess now we know that bushwacker will/should be coming out with the non-tool box fender flares. I'll give it a wait/see for the new ones. If not i know the tool box fender flares will work.

I am really dreading having to spend money on this upgrade but i need to make sure i pass all my safety inspections for next year.

Technically no, however some people have been able to modify the flares to fit over the mudflaps. I just left mine off and added some cheap ones from Auotzone on the back only. Just to keep the road crap off my exhaust tips.

What about putting some of that 3M Invisi-Guard underneath the flares?
I would think that should keep most of the junk out. Can't you get rolls on fleabay for cheap?
