Titan Rear Collision

First post. I wannt to get some feedback.

I have a 07 SE kingcab. Great tow truck for my other toys.

I was rear ended on the freeway thrusday by a expedition. Traffic had come near a stop when I was hit. I felt the impact, my truck leaped forward, I heard a collision (car behind him), then he hit me again. I estimate he was going between 30-50mph and I was near a dead stop.

My truck looked ok at the scene, the obvious thingers were the bumper, tailgate, and receiver was damaged. Along with some alignment issues. His expedition was totaled from both ends; it looked like an accordion. Driving my truck home it felt different.... I crawled under to inspect and noticed both frame rails were buckled infront of the rear leaf spring mount. They are bent downward and toward the passenger side. It looks like entire frame, even infront of the buckling, may have rotated clockwise (looking from the rear) and pushed to the left.

All of the energy from the collision was transmitted thru the receiver and directly into the frame. I didn't have a ball in it btw.

Has anyone seen damage like this repaired? I'm scared the insurance company is going to try and micky mouse this back together. I dont think it will ever be the same.

Other damage is
Bumper
Receiver
tailgate
bed (because rear section of the frame was pushed down, it has a convex shape to the floor)
Bed hit the cab, some paint work on the cab will need to be fixed.

Any ideas of what else I should look for? I am meeting with the adjuster next week and want to point out EVERYTHING. I want it totalled because I will never feel safe towing with it again.

I checked my frame...those holes are not supposed to be sideways like that...along with the nice bubbles on the frame side.

Get a couple estimates and see what the insurance adjuster says....then if they want to total it, tell them you want to buy it back for the salvage value. Then it is your choice...keep it like it is or fix it.

totaled for sure theres no fixing that. The only way to do it right is to replace the frame and it would be cheaper to buy another truck.

x2

That damage is not something that can just be "fixed" so the truck is back to its previous condition...without full frame replacement. If that truck is not totaled, I would be very surprised. I'm guessing there is a lot more structural damage that's not easily seen. Hopefully the adjuster digs deep.

64notchback, good to read you're alright. I'm curious how your seat absorbed the impact, any issues with your back/neck or anything?

Can you post any more pics?

Given the frame damage, i think you truck is done for.

But that also depends on your mileage and condition of truck.

What insurance are you going through? The other guy's or your's? That will make a difference.

In addition to what everyone else said, I would make sure to tell the adjuster that you do use if for towing. I know I would not tow if I know my frame has been weakened, especially if the damage is right where the hitch receiver attaches to the frame. Good luck.

I have a little back pain and both my legs were sore thursday night.

I did notice the seat moved some the other day. I just checked but didn't see any visible damage and couldnt get it to shift around. But I will make sure the adjuster takes the seats into account.

Unfortunately this is all through my insurance company (Geico), the guy responsible is uninsured and because the police think the girl (third car) hit him first, he will most likely get his car replaced.

The trucks is a 07 se king cab texas titan, 45k miles, bedliner, running boards, receiver. Not excellent condition, but still very nice. No other body damage. It KBBs at about 15.5k private party. I called a salavage yard and they said the value in its current state would be between 3-8k. If they dont want to total it, I'll have the salvage yard come out and give me a real quote. See if that + repair cost makes it economical for me to get out of a potential safety hazard and money pit.

I'll upload some more pictures monday.

The guy responsible is uninsured. He had a geico card at the scene, the police failed to run it thru the computer or he would have been cited or gone to jail. When I contacted Geico, they said his coverage was not current. My options were to file through my coverage, pay the deductable, and let geico go after him. Or to go after him myself with a 4x4.

Just went thru the same thing...rear ended and both frame rails bent down right at the hitch...Was VERY suprised they bent so easy, the feel of the impact inside the cab was very minor, i kind of laughed and said to myself "did I just get hit"...

Here's my greatest hits...

Looks exactly the same. What was the out come? What year, model, milage was your truck?

He claims that she hit him first, but I know better. I clearly remember him hitting me, I bounced off, I heard another collision, then he hit me again. If she hit him first, how could he hit me twice? The girl claimed she saw his expedition jump to the side before she hit him, which was he hit me.

If the girl hit him first then her insurance will be responsible for your truck.

first off, bent frame almost always means totaled ive heard of a few cases where the back half the truck, but most places wont do that. second, even if she hit him, he was to close to you therefore its his fault he hit you. look up the laws in your state, in both AR and TX its like that, even if he got rear ended, him hitting you is his fault, he shouldnt have been that close. i seriously doubt a little car pushed that expedition hard enough to hit you that hard.
