Uprev & Throttle control/Rom Failure issue

So I had this happen once on the Dyno, reflashed and reset the ECM and all was good. Had the same thing happen last night going down the track when I bumped the rev-limit in 2nd gear trying to manually shift. Lost all throttle control, coasted down the return road, shut it off, and reset the trouble code. Went to an older ROM and reflashed the truck. Got back up into the burnout box and it smacked the rev-limiter again and shut down again. I backed off the burnout box, reset the ECM and made my next pass just fine.

I am getting a P0605 and P0507.....In addition to running slower than Hypertech I have a Rom failure code and Idle Speed Control failure on multiple occasions......Think its time to go back to Hypertech until Uprev figures out the 2012 ECU and run some new personal bests and not have to worry about it.

On an intersting note my best pass was made with the throttle control issue present. 9.37 @ 71.12 on a 2.14s 60' in ~2,800 DA. Corrected to a 9.08 and my 9.387 @ 74.00 corrected to a 9.09 @ 75.97 on a 2.15s 60'.

I've yet to hear about this issue, must be a 2012 issue. Another 2012 Uprev owner might chime in.

#4 ·
Are you sure your issue is with the Titan and not the Hemi or the dakota? LMAO

#5 · (Edited)
Yes I am sure....Don't care what you think, it doesn't matter to me. I'm back running the 93 octane Hypertech tuning and the truck is FLYING. Can't wait to get the headers and full exhaust on it. Going to go with 3.5" single exhaust and Borla XR1 muffler. Probably be the only non-Uprev tuned truck in the mid 13s.

#6 ·
Almost has me tempted to try Hypertech, but you have never logged Bullydog or Superchips.

#7 ·
Looking at the stock tune, as the airflow increases past the MAF, its only going to add more fuel and keep the truck rich. I have no worries of leaning out with it when the headers and exhaust go on.

I'll be talking with Uprev tomorrow, since its pretty scary to lose throttle control the instant you bounce the rev-limit not to regain it until you clear the trouble codes. Could lead to disaster trying to pull onto a busy highway or passing a semi on a two lane road and I am not willing to attempt to find out. I am just glad its only acted up on the dyno, on the track, and in the water box.

UpRev,"Self Tuned" might be the problem from looking at your sig...:)

It still shouldnt throw ROM errors and trouble codes unless the base ron has faults in it. I tried an untouched "stock" ROM for my ECU# with Uprev tuned throttle only and had the same loss of throttle control in the burnout box.

Idrove to Fort Worth and back this afternoon and made a couple of 0-60 runs on Hypertech. Much more controlable and predictable than Uprevs throttle mapping. My first run was with the IATs at 118°F and slightly uphill at the start and went 6.93. My second run had 112°F IAT at the start and was on flatter ground with maybe a touch downhill slope at the end and that run produced a 6.26s 0-60. The timing never spiked above 25° and strangely it ra n 11.4:1 afr. I think the heat is making it pull massive amounts of timing, but its still spinning un-noticeably in 1st gear once the tach passes 2,500 enough for the ECU to pull power back to ~ 2/3 throttle opening.

#12 ·
I have seen those numbers on the Hypertech too, extremely rich, is that good too? Still think you have an issue with the original ROM, that did not come from Uprev to start with.

Need to see Randy's posts on the Rom's that are out there. Randy is seeing some strange stuff from the ones he is getting sent to tune.

#13 ·
No problems here.... hope you get it figured out.

I'm have a 2010 and Randy provided my ROM. I was coming back from the track and was running another T. I too bounced the rev limiter and encountered the same thing. Went straight into limp mode. Luckily, I was able to pull over, kill the truck, then start it back up and all was well. When I got home, I checked the codes and I had the following:
ECU Error
P0605 - Internal Control Module - read only memory (ROM) error

ABS Error
C1131 - no description for this one

I cleared the codes and all has been well. I'm going to try and hit the rev limit again to see if the same thing happens.

Did you make any changes to the rev limits? I noticed the throttle rev limit on my base rom from uprev was set at 5900. I moved it up to 6050. The fuel cut and restore are set at 6150 and 5950. I dont know if this means anything at all... but Ive hit the limiter a few times without any problems.

After bouncing off the limiter the first time, I did make some changes. My throttle rev-limiter was set at 6,000 stock and the fuel shut-off was 6,100 with resume at 5,950. I pushed the throttle rev to 6,200, fuel shutoff to 6,300 and resume to 6,150. Did the same thing as before. I was on my way to a 9.30 pass when it lost throttle control at about 580' down the track during the 2-3 shift.

I agree on the dead motors and transmissions, especially transmissions, which is why I am back on Hypertechs Premium fuel tuning for the moment. On a side note, I drove from a girlfriends house in Fort Worth to my job in Mesquite this morning, 55 miles at an average speed of 60 mph, running 70+ at times, and was showing nearly 20 mpg when I got to work.

Hypertech's throttle control is much easier on the transmission than the Uprev ROM I have. The Uprev ROM holds the throttle at 4.11 volts regardless of wheelspin, ABLS operation, or transmission shifting. Hypertech allows the proper function of the ABLS and cushions the shift by pulling a small amount of power on the 1-2 shift. Uprev by comparison forces the transmission to shift with the throttle wide open and the resulting tire spin was hurting track times even more.

As for just flat getting out there and going, I jumped on the truck from 2 mph this morning with a cool truck and it just took off, no roasting the tires, just hooked and went.

All the power is made around 4600-5000 anyways so I don't know why you would want to hit the rev limiter in every gear. You are going to slow yourself down in the 1/4 mile by doing this. Put that thing in 3rd gear and let the computer shift.

#22 ·
In drive my truck has hit the throttle rev limiter in nearly every WOT 1-2 shift since it was new. It runs up to 5,900-6,000 on every shift in drive.

So, is Randy an Uprev tuner? For some reason I thought I heard someone elses name being thrown around at Uprev to speak with and get things sorted out. Jared was it? From the outside looking in after reading this thread, it seems like Randy is the common denominator. I don't have Uprev and I have no dog in this fight. I'm certainly not bashing Randy either whoever that is. I'm just stating what looks obvious to me in reading this thread. I hope everyone gets it figured out.

#24 ·
Ya, Randy is the mothafuka when it comes to tuning. It just happen to me because it was my drunk a$$ that thought he could shift gears. Prolly a good thing or I might have really done some damage. I was just letn everybody know it happen me for an answer. Maybe bug in software, tuning, or by design. I'll email Randy and get the flavor for this. ;-)

Scared me cause I rolled up to you and your like my **** is f****d and I didn't know what happened cause y'all were running good till that happened...

#26 ·
Any of you guys with this problem contact Uprev yet?

#27 ·
Uprev is the only real tuning we have! Randy knows more about Titans than any one on these forums and one of the best Titan tuners in the county! If you want the most out of your truck go with Uprev.
X2

Randy is the best tuner i know hands down!!!

I very highly doubt he has anything to do with this...

#31 ·
Not in this case, my Rom was supposed to be from the Uprev database and the stock Rom may have been corrupted in some way.

I have not had time to Email or call Uprev on it yet. End of month in a dealership parts department gets busy.

#29 ·
Very interested in what Uprev comes back with about this. Randy's the man when it comes to titan tuning because he owns a titan too! lol It takes one to know one... :D

And I would also bet that this issue is caused by a glitch in the updated program and/or newer roms that the engineer overlooked (NOT Randy) when he patched the roms, not something to do with the actual tunes.

#30 ·
And what is your point!
My point is what I'm reading. I'm trying to help figure out the dilemma there turbo, and help out fellow Titan owners with what seems to be a problem for more than just one person. I'm an engineer by trade and when I read things/problems, the first thing that I look for is what is the same and what is different. Or in essence, "what changed".

Easy fellas, I don't know anyone at Uprev nor do I have it on my truck. I'm just telling you what I saw when reading this thread. I believe you and everyone else that he is the expert when it comes to tuning now that I know he is an uprev employee and tunes for just about everyone. Again, it was just the common denominator that came out of each post with problems. Most likely something in the new software that is messing with things. I just wanted to point out what I saw is all.

Been running Ben's tunes from day #1, no problems ever! He's a hell of guy and the best there is. He has done way more for me than he ever should have! One day I hope and pray to pay him back. Mad props for him

Randy kinda sorta works for Uprev. He has a full time job and tune almost all the Titan ROM's that come through. He is the Uprev Godfather, he is the one that talked them into supporting the Titan back in the day. There are a couple new tuners that work full time at Uprev, like above Jarred is the man over there.

Is it the ROM, Cable, Support, Laptop, electrical interferance when Uploading ROM or is the tranny going into Limp Mode after bouncing off the Rev Limiter?

Limp Mode will cut power and will not go over 30mph or 3000 RPM. I went into Limp Mode once after a Mega Burnout. Shut the Titan down, restarted and all has been fine.

What I am seeing is a total loss of throttle control. Bang the limiter and the truck will idle at 1,000 rpm in drive or park or neutral with no throttle response other than a very slow, steady rise to 1,500 rpm in park. The truck will maybe roll 10 mph max. The instant it cuts power you are done until you reset the ecu. Mine will not respond to killing and restarting.

When I think about taking my truck up to Austin to get tuned with spark plugs with about 30,000 on them a Shot 22" magnaflow and no good attempt to separate engine air from intake air it is a wonder Omar did as well as he did and even better for Randy to improve on it. The next go round is gonna be Awesome!

All i can say is I can't wait to get a new tune from Ben once my new exhaust gets put on. Got that Velocity stack and completely different exhaust setup...(from duals to Y-pipe/single)... yeah the T is gonna need some adjustments.

btw...i'm looking at this thursday for exhaust install. crossing fingers!

Haha, I have zero issues on Hypertech. I just ran a 0-60 in full street trim on my way home from work, while logging with Cipher. On the 93 tune, I pulled dow a 6.28s 0-60 with the traction contol on and wheelspin pulling the throttle back to 2.5 volts @ 2,500 rpm pulling 118°F IAT fully heatsoaked in 100°F temps. 32° advance at 5,800 rpm and 11.8:1 afr.

Yes...I realize it loaded upside down from my phone but as many 0-60 as we have being posted upside down with "Don't stop believing, by Journey playing makes it unique.
