What's your longest range on 1 tank?

Just currious to know what's the most amount of miles you've put on 1 tank full of gas?

I'm setting my all time record of 481 miles right now! I'm going to stop and fill back up on the way home. I'll let you know how many gallons I used and the MPG for this tank. I normally don't have any problems averaging 18 MPG.

damn, i went 352 miles, and i had nothing but 2 gallons left

I normally fill up when the gas light comes on. I usually have about 6 gallons left when it comes on, resulting in a 22 gallon fill-up.

Around this time of year and with my driving habits, I usually only get about 260-270 miles before the light comes on.

I have gone as high as 330 on a long trip. Man this winter fuel really sucks!!!

I don't know how some of you guys get such good mileage. You must be driving like pansies. :futwice:

I've gone 425 on a tank on a highway trip once. Beyond that it wasn't worth risking walking to the gas station and not being in my girlfriend's good graces the rest of the trip. I think I only put in a little under 24 gallons though, so I could have stretched it a bit further. 480 is getting ballsy.

Vols -

Do you think the tonneau cover improves your gas mileage? I installed one on mine but haven't gone on long trips since installed so I have no idea. Driving around town is down right scary. I feel like every time I look at the gas gauge, it dropped a notch!

The most miles I have done one one tank is 374 miles. The most gas I have put in at one filling is 28.5 gal. and I went 366 miles on that tank.

Good Thread VOLS, I've wonder this myself...but

Holy Crap, I've never been able to get to those numbers, not sure if it's because I have a 4x4 OR with BT and I know the weight has to do with it somewhat. I can get (when driving it gently) about 225-235?

What's up?

I'm not too sure if it has or not. I've received a lot of compliments on it though and it keeps my goodies LOCKED in the bed. I'd guess it probably balances itself out after you factor the additional weight. I did install one of the Armada air damns under the front bumper though. Between those 2 mods, I'm thinking my MPG has increase slightly. Even if it has, it'll take a long time to recapture the initial expense of those mod through saving gas. :smoke:

I'm fortunate that I drive mostly country roads and little to no traffic. During my 25 mile drive to work, I encounter 2 stop signs and 3 stop lights! 1 of those lights was just put up too. Stupid urban growth!

:jester: You're right! :jester: I actually try not to get the RPMs above 2K any time I start moving. I started doing this when I bought the truck because I was currious to see how good of mileage I could get and now it's developed into a regular driving habit.

I used to beat on my old '93 Max periodically, but I can honestly say that I've only completely floored this truck ~4 times. Last time, I was leaving the car wash where a bunch of people were checking out my clean & shinny beast as I left. I decided to splurge and give 'em a show. Floored it and did a huge fish tail with tons of smoke going everywhere. GOT TO LOVE THAT POWA! :gunz: Ridgeliners.....eat your heart out.

I'm reading most of these MPG's are these all highway miles. I do mostly city driving and i'm lucky to see 220. I am rooling on 35's but the number just seem high.

All I know is I'm afraid to check mine.....lol

425 on mostly hwy miles is about the longest - I could've gone another 50 or so. I average around 310-330 on mixed hwy/fwy driving.

Getting off the gas early and not flooring it from stops helps a bit. The tonneau probably helps a bit as well as keeping tires inflated properly and the windows up.

I drive mostly country roads to and from work as well- 39 miles one way. I've been averaging about 16.5 mpg. One thing that I do that I learned with my last truck is to use my cruise control. Seems to help out. I don't usually hit it too hard commuting- don't need another ticket and in this truck that would be all to easy. No tickets in the Titan and I hope to keep it that way!

I tend to fill up when the tank is still 1/4 full by the gauge. That said, the best I have done was on a long hwy trip--> 318 miles. When I got home from that trip I filled up and put 17 gallons in for a total of 18.6 mpg. So, figure 10 gallons left equals about 180 more miles (possibly) puts me right at 480-500 on one tank right there with Vol:smoke:

I also try not to get the engine over 2000 RPMs, doing that I can get 15-16 in the city, but that depends on how much stop-and-go I get into.

YES!!! I read that a cover will improve fuel mileage due to improved aerodynamics. Air does not "swirl" behind cab as much, thus reduces drag, improving fuel mileage.

"According to these studies, it does.

From the SEMA Research and Information Center -
According a study conducted by Western New England College's Department of Mechanical Engineers, "The best way to reduce drag, and improve gas mileage for pickup trucks, is to add a tonneau cover." Their study yielded gas mileage savings of 8% by adding a tonneau cover to a Dodge Ram.

From Auto Trim & Restyling News - August 2001

From "Tailgate Talk - Does Removing A Tailgate Affect Fuel Economy?"

By Bruce W. Smith

According to many experts, the best way to improve a pickup's fuel economy is to leave the tailgate up and cover the bed with a quality aftermarket Tonneau cover. "Tonneau covers on pickup boxes reduce aerodynamic drag," said Ford's Jack Williams. "We've seen reductions of about 8 to 10 percent on the F150. The average steady-state [cruise control] fuel economy improvement at highway speeds is closer to 5 percent."

I got to 395 miles, 95% hwy using CC @ 75 MPH. This was after driving about 40 miles with the fuel light on. I had a little more than 1.5 gallons left in the tank. So I could have gone about 20-30 miles more before running out of gas. It was running around 2200 RPM, so I don't think this is bad range for a truck with a tow package on it.

Scary thing was, light came on around 1/8 tank. Then after about another 10 miles, the gauge dropped to E and stayed there.
