wheel hop/tire screech in 4wd while turning

I dont remember my truck doing this last year, when I last used 4wd... However, i had different tires on.

Basically, when I turn the truck left or right at slow speeds (probably under 15?) the rear tires seem to stutter... stop - spin - stop - spin, and cause the tires to screech like i was peeling out. People look at me weird, and people in my truck were nervous.

Dealer says its normal, but i wanted to check in.

Normal in 4wd. I've been in many trucks that do it. It's probably just exaggerated more with the new tires.

The front and back tires are turning at different speeds. Something has to give. Initially it is your tires. Eventually it is your drive train. Don't drive in 4WD on pavement.

Yeah...why would you be in 4WD on dry pavement...and turning to boot? That's about the only way your tires would squeal. Not cool and definitely not recommended! It's a real good way to guarantee a trip to the repair shop. :bangit:

OK first off... i don't drive in in 4wd all the time. I was coming up a flooded hill, while towing my trailer and wasn't getting traction. Got to the top of the hill, took a left turn... Usually when you drive, you take turns...4wd or not. truck stuck in 4wd due to the issue below.

I use it in 99% only in winter hence why its never been on dry pavement and i coudlnt recall this happening before.

Also, i was bringing the truck in under warranty because it wont come out of 4wd when you switch it back. therefore it gets stuck til i pull over and shut off the truck.

They were replacing some 4wd controller (which if course they had the wrong part and wasted day without the truck). Also had a busted U joint in the front so the 4wd was doing all sorts of awesome stuff.

Didnt want to have to throw out the whole story ... but to product myself from being an apparent idiot to all of you, those are the facts.

just wanted to confirm it was normal, because usually the dealer plays the "could not replicate issue" or "its normal" card to just about everything. coupled with the other issues, I wasn't sure if this was a product of them.

thanks for the help, not the scolding

It was getting enough traction to make the tires the weak link that's why they were doing that. Just be careful and get it out of 4x as soon as possible.
