Will a different size tire destroy rear end?

My spare tire is the origional 265-70-18 Goodyear SRA. My other 4 tires are Goodyear Fortera 285-60-18's . If I put the origonal tire on the back for a short period of time as a spare will it damage the rear end? How about the front differental on my 4x4 will it damage that for a short period of time? Thanks for any help on this.

If you don't have the truck in 4x4 mode then the front would be a better bet. BUT given that we have abls the truck will act totally funky and your truck will face more wear on brakes etc than necessary. (Assumption is that we all have 4 wheel abls as was represented to me before purchase).

Best to have all donuts of the same flavor and size given the technologies in place on the truck.

Many also recommend that the rotations place the spare into the dance so that all the tires are as close to each other in shape and size as possible!

If you get a flat in the rear, you should move one of the front tires to the rear and put the spare in the front while driving in 2wd. It is not advised to use different tire sizes on the same axle....yes it could do some damage.

There is about one inch difference in tire diameters. Driving for short periods with the two different sizes won't hurt anything, but I would not drive any longer than necessary and keep the speed down.
I was making a three point turn in the middle of the road and didnt see the water culvert because on the wide pillers and ramed right into it. It cut the front tire all the way down the side wall allmost all the way through and damaged the rim. I dont trust this tire to drive on so I want to put the different size spare on. They have to order the new tire in and they said maybe 2 days would you say that is to long to be driving with different size tires on the front? I drive about 130 miles per day.
Another question: Does the spare rim have a tire pressure sensor on it to?

Spare dosen't have a TPMS sensor so you will likely have the light on in your dash when using the spare. I would definatley put the spare on the front. I'm not 100% certain, but don't think the abls works on the front when in 2wd. Although when you step on the brakes the ABS system will cause the truck to act funny, cause some brake wear, etc. I'd say you should be ok using if on the front for a day or so even though you do drive quite a bit, but take it easy; try to avoid using 4x4 unless absoplutely necessary and avoid sudden, hard stops. If you have the locker and used it with different size tires at each end(rear end), you could severly damage your rear axle(if that would happen I'd put the same size tires on, take it to the dealer and play stupid).

Is there a way to change the sensor from the regular rim to the spare rim and use the spare rim full time. Because I screwed up my rim when I hit the water culvert. It is still usable but is scratched real bad. I want to use the scratched rim for the spare rim.

The sensor is on the stem. You need to mount the new full size tire on the spare rim and the spare on the scuffed rim, and have the stems changed while you do this. Since you want to swap anyway, this won't be any extra. :gunz:

You da man scr 38. I had a feeling you were going to come up with something like this. That is exactly what i am going to do. Print that out and have them read it. Thanks again. Now if I can get more answers about wether its ok to run 1 bigger tire than the other. Some say its ok others say no way. Anyone have a definative answer? That would sure help.
