The wife has been thinking she wants one to replace the titan, since we dont actually put stuff in the bed. Our truck is like a car that can tow, really.

Anyways, we have test drove some 18-21 platinum reserve armadas, sl armadas, and luxe qx80s and i am not impressed with them against my 2017 titan. For such "luxury" vehicles, they are not as loaded as our titans are. And mine is an sv with all the packages. I dont even have leather, the high end radio, or the sunroof.

I keep telling my wife we will end up keeping the titan and she can drive the armadas/qx80/whatever.

I am just not impressed.

Whats yalls thoughts on those vehicles? They got our engine in 2012 or 2014 and are still going strong so the direct injection isnt an issue and the scuffing didnt effect them till recently, like the second gen titan. They also still use the 7 soeed transmission so that tells me something about that trans being a more trusted one by nissan

I’ve had a 17’ thru current 21’ Armada. They are based on Patrol platform overseas. The thing is a tank and only issues we have had is the engine knock.

Wife likes to replace hers every two to three years.

Supposedly the 24’ model due to be released this summer is to be larger and have a 424hp TTV6.

We looked at the new Sequoia. It was a huge disappointment.. Tight interior, subpar handling, poor gas mileage and worst of all a ridiculous price tag..

Only plus was it had decent power..

We will see how the redesigned Armada stacks up and if we are not impressed will likely move on to a Tahoe…

that is part of her reasoning is the towing. and no 4runners. if i want to look like very other suv on the road and get bad gas mileage, i would get a 4runner.

the 2025 armada has already got spy shots on the net and nissan has a video out on it. they made it look like a land rover range rover and its a twin turbo v6 so i wonder if that is going to lead to the look of the new titan?

the infinity salesman was really impressed with the new look and kept showing us stuff about it. he loves it but the price he said their first one costs, because their dealer already requested one, is 100k. he said they are shooting to compete with the escalade and thats why they got that expensive one. its to much to me though

i guess since its based on the patrol, that is why the interior feels so bland compared to the titan? the cup holders are small and close together. there is no phone holder. the back seat cup holders are not that big either, it doesn't seem like it was made for americans, or at least not for texans. all our restaurants have very large drinks so we need big cup holders. can size cup holders do nothing for us. and the big broad expansive center console really has no useful thing on it. the shifter and knob and the small cup holders and then tons of flat space that could be used for other stuff. and the back seats don't lay flat so the amount of room in the back is not as useful as the size of the vehicle leads one to believe.

i suppose all this leads to me not to want one, ha ha ha. i want to like it and want it to work for us but i just cannot get past the things that are so different from the titan.

We purchased a 19 Armada SL when we found out my wife was pregnant in 2018 (had to let go of my 370Z 😭). Compared it to the Tahoe/Yukon, Sequoia, and other big full size SUV's and to me it was just better in overall value. More standard features, room, and power compared to others. We felt it was also more comfortable as well. Tech was little outdated at the time but didn't really bother us. Ended up trading it in for updated 22 Armada SL since they were offering bank for ours and got a good deal on new one so why not. Looks better with more up-to-date tech with the same comfort and power. Hands down worth every penny compared to its competitors. My sister drives the QX80 as well and she loves it. Probably would've consider the same model but we didn't like the second row captains seats that feels like that center console takes up to much needed extra space plus it being like $10k more for practically the exact model we have .

yeah. the toyota fanbois will be right there. nothing wrong with toyotas, just don't try and ram it down our throats. if we think they are good, we will get one. until its cost effective to spend more for something that is not monetarily that much better though, i am not getting one

@busemans, we still have our '21 Armada and love it. We regularly ride 6-7 people (not kids or toddlers) with 2 in the back, three in the middle, and two up front. We love the vehicle. I lifted it so it's riding around 4" higher than stock. Wheels/tires/tint/intake, that's it. It has tons of power, it's fast even with the larger tires. The 7-spd transmission is smooth. The wireless CarPlay is good, the infotainment center is clear / high-res. The 360 cameras are nice. Sunroof/moonroof. It is an SL. I really can't think of a downside right now. We have 55k on the clock, loving it. And it tow's really well. I have several different hitches for it, depending on what we're pulling; but it's set up well - braking system, trailer monitoring, etc. Get one.

i saw your same screen name on one of the armada forums. i remembered you talking about it in another post too. we have only been looking at the platinum reserve and the sl trim lines because the wife wants the 360 cameras, specifically so she feels ok driving it.

i wish you could get an sv trim with the cameras. i like the sl but i think the bench would work better in the second row for what i want but its hard to find an sv with cameras or an sl with a bench. and, my main thing is i don't want to pay a ton. i am cutting the search limit at 30-32k so that makes salesmen not really helpful because they want to move the 50k+ cars and get their big profit

4 Runner has plenty of loyal repeat buyers who will readily cash in their retirement on one..

I can’t imagine it would have more interior room than the Sequoia…

4 Runner competes with the Pathfinder…

I am not loyal to brands. I would buy products if they show worth. I may consider future xterra if nissan revives the model with v8 and power rear window.

Yup, thats why we are looking at them. Tons of 18, 19, 20 and some 21 in that range and very decent miles

i actually found a super nice SL in houston with decent miles and looks good. too bad its 3-4 hours away from me to go to houston. san antonio and austin are to small, i geuss, to get great deals. they don't list many used sl for a good price in those two cities.

dude, the 21 gauges and info center is way better than the 20 and older. the 20 and older look like they are old super nintendo style

Well, while out messing around at dealerships, the local ford place had a 19 armada sl with bench second row and 360 cameras for 25k. Its got 63k miles on it and is that pearl white color with black leather interior. I stop in because i want to drive as many as i can so i can get a feel for then to see how they compare to my truck.

Anyways, the dealer says why dont you tske it home so your wife and you can drive it around tomorrow to see if yall like it.

I am not planning on buying this particular one. When looking it over, i saw it had rust on the bottom of the cross members that was pretty substantial. Like engrained and flaking rust and it was in that little storage area under the back floor area behind the third row seats.

But, since they offered, i said sure. So i left my little 05 mazda6 at the dealer and took the armada home.

Apparently there are different levels of info centers and the way stuff is set up because this is very simular to my tian, minus the gage cluster. The cluster is very much like a first gen titan, i think. It reminds me of my dad's 12 or 14 titan cluster. So this level of truck is not bad at all for a 19.

Anyways, we are going to take it to breakfast tomorrow. We will pick up my son and his wife to get some perspective from passengers and talk about the armada versus titan and get thoughts.

Engine and trans is the same as my titan. Direct injection and the 7 speed and its just as quick off the line as my truck. It is fairly impressive how quick this thing takes off from a dead stop.

The gas mileage, so far, is the same as my truck. I am riding about 15 in town.

Sound wise, on the highway for the 5 miles to my neighborhood, the armada is hands down obviouslt built to a higher standard than the titan. The doors open and close more solid sounding, the body panel lines are a lot tighter, and the wind noise is almost imperceptible, which is impressive since 20mph head winds added to your speed are almost daily when heading to my house from town.

The steering feels slightly different. Its hard to describe how it feels different, its like it has a little less conection to the road and its like the steering ratio is a little more. Say if the tiran is 3:1, than the armada is like 3.5:1.

Its got the same rims as my truck, the 20s. This armada is two wheel drive though, not 4x4 like my truck.

I geuss if i found this trim and year at this price with no rust, i could easily live with it. I like the 21 gage and info center more but this particular truck is very decent.

I also drove a 21 qx80 right before i drove this 19. The 21 qx80 was like i was in a rolls royce. It was so quiet and smooth, it was unbelievable. Same engine and trans as my truck but the build of this model seemed to be even more than the armada and the luxuriousness was crazy. If i did notbhave a problem spending 40k on a used suv, that qx80 would have went home with me.

Its the mark i will judge other armadas and qx80 against, so far. It was very very nice.

So far, though, the titan wins all the comparisons. I imagine the wife will feel the same but we will see. She has to drive since she wants the 360 cams so maybe she will trade her mazda for one?

The titan won out, still, after a day of seeing armadas. Not because i don't like them but i am just not sold enough to swap the titan.

I really like the shorter body and turning ability on the armada/qx80. Its definitely easier in town parking lots and the 360 view is super nice.

The armadas feel so much quicker off the line. I dont know if they are lighter, i kind of doubt it, but maybe the diff is geared lower? I dont know but the armada/qx80 just feels quick off the line.

I really really like them, thats for sure. My wife and son liked the armada/qx more than the titan. My son said the bench in the armada is like a padded reclining version of the titan back seat. He said the only negative he saw was the cup holders were closer together in the center console and seemed sized for soda cans, not normal larger drinks. Funny, same thing i noticed. He also said the ride was a good amount quieter than in the titan back seat and the ride of the armada was very smooth.

So my 25 year old son noticed all the same things i noticed, which is good since he is also a "car guy".

The wife just says the armada/qx trucks are very nice. No particular comments but she said would be fine if we got one because of the interior room versus the titan.

I guess if a super deal came around, we would swap but there is still nothing that is "blow you away great" to push me over to one right now. The prices are just not good enough to make me change right now

If i didnt have the ranger, i would need a truck. But the ranger does all the hauling i need to carry in the bed. The titan does all the towing

The previous gen aramadas (<15') came with a VQ40 OR a VK56... I'd totally rock a VK56 one. However they're ultra rare, and finding a 4wd one is even harder.

The current gen armadas look def have a soccer mom look to them, however a buddy has one for his family with the 3rd row seating and all the bells and whistles and it's definitely nice and luxurious. Plus, no stupid CVT. If I had the dough, I wouldn't mind one.

Rented a new QX80 a few of months ago for work for a week. I was not impressed with what they consider a luxury vehicle. Drivers seat was just plain strange (position and feel) as far as I was concerned. I tried all the different positions also. I would stick with the Armada. I rented one of those also last trip. Had 50k on it and it still drove and looked great.
