Train Horn Installation Question...

First post, but been browsing around for boards for a few months. Got a few questions about a train horn kit I just purchased. I did some searching but didn't really find exactly what I was looking for.
I can't post a link, so just type this in Google and it will be the first link:

Thats the kit I bought. I already have the horns mounted underneath the bed where the spare tire goes, but Im not so sure about the electrical stuff...

1) I can't wire this thing up straight to the battery, it says to use an "accessory" circuit. I know what they mean by that, but does anyone have any ideas on what "accessory" to use and where I can wire it up at?

2) It comes with a fuse, does that go between the compressor and accessory circuit?

3) Do you see any problems mounting the tank/compressor combo under the bed also? It would have to be upside down, is that a fine?

4) Any other tips or suggestions on the install? Like mounting spot for the button? Is it a pain to mount somewhere on the dash?

that looks sweet


accessory means 12V that turns on with the key (is not always on)

i dont think mounting the compressor underneath would be bad

but dont bottom out on it...lol


also put the button on the dash to the left of the driver side

and lastly

Yeah, I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on where I should be wiring it up? I know the cigarette lighter would work, but can I just cut the wire and splice the wire for the horns right to that?

Alright man, first off, GREAT investment...lmao I mean believe me, I'm fortunate enough to have to pick up my bro from his high school every so often, and I've seen kids jump about 3 feet from a dead stand still, if that doesn't get you cracking up i dunno what will...:jester:

Anyways, lets see what i can do for you here...

Ok, For one, I have the 4pc. Conductors Train kit from Hornblasters.com, so I dont know how you're horns and compressor are set up, but I have 2 horns on each frame rail and my compressor is mounted below the passenger seat along the right rail. The best thing for you to do, is get yourself a heavy-duty toggle switch and mount it on the left of the drivers seat (like Rick guess mentioned) Its convienent to have a toggle between stock horn, and train...now it took me about 3 hours to set up the kit, using various Tutorials on the internet and having a buddy of mine explain the wiring to me...


Personally, just find a number of different sources on installing train horns, they're simple and fun, just need to be patient...and mounting switches in the dash is a piece of cake...

Got the horns and the compressor mounted. Also ran the air line. Now I just gotta mount the switch and run the wires. Ill post pics soon

A lot of Titan owners in socal know my Horn, at least the ones that come to the meets.


1. The compressor you have will not handle the pressure (~150psi) for long. I recommend that you put a 115Psi or 120psi pressure switch in. By doing this yes you will drop a couple of db (2-3) but not much, however your pump will last a lot longer.

2. The compressor should remain as dry as you can but will take some wet. keep in mind that it will get HOT and the tiny seal in the back plate will evenly start letting watter in and rust the brush springs. So in about 1 year look for a replacement.

3. The power should come directly from the battery. put a fuse as close to the battery as you can. Then use a relay to switch the power on. Why... Simple at about 90-100psi the pump will require ~ 15amps - 18amps and go up from there.

4. The tank is small but will work for what you need. 3-4 blasts. The hose provided is ok but can blow off when watter gets on the inside. (what happens when you compress air). mount the tank anyplace you want.

5. Your Horns. OUCH ... I think you got the wider set. Mounting them under the bed is ok but you really want to mount them in front. From what I see from the horns you have there is no room in front.
This is a set like I have mounted just in front of the drivers side tire and pointed down.

Hey what brand relay and press switch did you use. Do you have a pic of your horn install? I was snooping around the front of my truck yesterday for possible spots to mount the horns and havent seen any good ones yet. Approx how long are the horns? I have to get this mod, those videos had me rolling!!!!:jester: :jester: :rofl: :rofl:

Thanks for all the replies. Been sick and haven't been able to log on or make any progress on the installation. Hopefully get back at it tonight after work.

But RobKar, thanks for the detailed info. And yeah, thats what Ill have to do with the compressor is go straight to the battery, I tried the accessory circuit like they said and Im not getting any power to the compressor. And yes, I looked all around for a place to mount these damn horns and the rear was the only place they will fit. I looked in that spot right in front of the wheel, but they are just to BIG!
