Tow package?

OK, just bought a 2008.5 (yeah I know .5) and on the sticker it says it has the towing transmission. I bought and installed a hitch, easy enough.

The truck has an additional cooler fan in front of radiator and a push button switch on the lower dash that says two mode and lights up when depressed.

Nowhere does it say Tow Package, but having the fan and the switch throws me off! :)

every titan comes with the TowMode Button and the cooling fans, only thing that you get with the actual Tow Package is the mirrors, Trans Temp guage, Different gear ratios

There is no such thing as a towing transmission. All titans have the same transmission. The difference is in the rear end gears, the non tow, non off road has the 2.?? gears, and the tow package, or the off road package has the 3.36 gears, along with the trans temp gauge, tow mirrors, and something else.

The transmission is no different for Titans with or without the tow package.

Is yours an XE, SE, or LE? The easiest way to tell if you have the tow package for SE and LE models is to look at the mirrors. Tow package = big mirrors.

Edit: Sorry bout the tranny comment. Helo beat me to it.

Best way to ID a Tow Package Titan is the factory trans temp gauge...people install factory hitches and mirrors to make a non-tow appear tow, BUT the temp gauge is real deal...

The new XEs 2008.5 dont have the gauge but still can have the big tow package. Its part of the option change between 2008 and 2008.5

Thanks for the input!

1) nope no mirrors

2) double checked on window sticker and it specifies tow transmission

3) SE model

I knew I didnt order the tow package but got real confused by extra fan and button. It is a 2008.5 so maybe that is some of the difference as far as temp gauge and such. I dont plan on doing a lot of towing, just sometimes 22 foot center console boat, so I know it wont have any trouble, was just wondering.

Thanks again for the input, this site is great and you guys are too for trying to help.

Can you take a picture of your trans temp guage? If you have that guage, you should have the big mirrors and tow hitch. What does your window sticker say?

I'll try and a take a pic at some point today (work). The sticker says nothing about the tow package, and i have the normal power mirrors. Also, the hitch and 7-wire harness were dealer added, but I do have the trans temp gauge.

I have an 08 XE WITH the Tow Package, but, mine did NOT come with Tow mirrors.... My tow package option was only $250, not the normal $450 or so that it is on SE/LE's. I have the hitch, tranny guage, higher gear ratio, but no mirrors. Dealer told me that was normal because the tow mirrors are all power and the XE does not have the necessary buttons/wiring needed for the mirrors.

The really SERIOUS indicator of towing is the axle ratio number. Check the tag/label behind the driver door and look at the axle indicator. a 29 tells you NO JOY, standard axle, and a 33 tells you you have the towing ratio. All the other things are interesting, maybe important, but your towing performance will be less than it could be if you have the 2.9 axle ratio.

That means more heating in the tranny under tow, whether you have the temp gauge or not, and you can always add that in some way (JC Whitney??).

It is my understanding that XEs with the tow package do not come with the larger mirrors. Only SEs and LEs with the tow package come with the larger mirrors.

ok...here is what I have found out:

I have an 2008.5 SE CC 2x4:

On the sticker....no option packages at all.

The dealer added a reciever hitch and harness.

BUT.....

I have the tranny temp indicator and according to the sticker in the door I have the 33 axle. The battery looks much larger than my dad's 05, so maybe I also have the larger batter. What I don't have (if you look at the pictures above) are the Big tow mirrors.

SO.....

It seems for some reason I have everything for the big tow package, minus the mirrors even though it isn't part of my price.
