Hi Guys,
I have looked thru the forums and see lots on this matter and think i know the way forward but just wanted some confirmation from knowledgeable individuals.

I have an 05 Titan with both manifolds cracked and 14K outside warranty. Nissan Canada tell me its tough but wont help out on this major design fault...anyway a path forward seems to be the following if it was your money?? ($2400 to fit new manifolds at my local dealer BTW)

1) the fitting of headers rather than OEM manifolds? Just JBA or any other make?

2) anyone in or around Calgary that can recommend a fitter and/or a JBA or alternative retailer?

3) is it an engine out fix?

4) anything i missed

thx to all that reply

Nick

If it were me... I'd have a set of aftermarket headers installed. Do you require catalytic converters up there? If so, you can use either the JBA Cat4Ward units, where you cut off and weld your existing cats onto the tail of the JBA, or you could go with the Stillen headers and the new B-pipes with the O2 bungs in them so you don't throw codes. I'd probably go with the Nismo, and have a set of custom B-pipes made, with cats if necessary, and fitted in there. I say that since I have the Nismo exhaust and the quality is first rate! I'd just go Nismo front to back!

It really makes no sense to put that much money into the stockers again.

And no, the engine doesn't come out, but it must be broken loose of the mounts and lifted a bit to get the headers in and out. The JBA are a bit tougher since the existing cats need to be cut and rewelded so the alignment and adjustment takes a couple install/uninstall of the headers.

Any way you slice it, I'd go aftermarket.... ESPECIALLY since you're out of warranty.

Now, depending what you decide, JBA has a list of certified installers on their website. I would think the guys at Stillen could recommend someone or would try to help. Nismo would most likely be the toughest to get help from since they aren't really an aftermarket shop, but a sub of Nissan, which could cause a bit of difficulty as most places that install them would be the dealerships.... but it's all worth investigation and don't rule them out cuz of that.

i just had mine replaced about 2 weeks ago. What mileage do yo have because the warranty on those are 8yr/80,000 miles.

Blackbeauty.....great info...thx for taking the time with it all.

I will be taking a look and seeing what best suits my wallet.

Onebadasstitan ... Really? According to Nissan CA its 3yrs/100KMs and i have just gone past the 114kms mark?? Wonder if the US and Canada are different or i'm being fed some BS? Powertrain is def 100Kms according to my manual...What do you reckon?

will those headers be street legal? they say for off road use only?

No R-Tuned parts are CARB legal. It states so right on the boxes.

Now, JBA says that since they use the factory cats, they don't void the warranty.

The Magnusson Moss Act also states that if a part fails, the dealerships must prove that the aftermarket part caused the failure, the owner does not have to prove it didn't.

However, it's a questionable argument at best and with the technical wizardry and BS to back them, they can usually talk a better game than most vehicle owners. So it's a fight either way.

It's also a National law that buggering with emissions equipment in any way is illegal, so you can make the call on that one.

There's so much information from all sources out there... Who's right?

The judge who listens to the case, I suppose... But who wants to deal with that?

I had my second cracked manifold covered under that but I'm in the US also, so that may make a difference but its worth a check. From what the dealer told me they are covered because the cats are attached to them.

Ok...story moved on following the info gained from this site.

I went back to Nissan CA and spoke to another snotty individual who said the same thing..its powertrain, we dont cover etc... What i missed from my original post is that knowing it was powertrain exempt ealier in the week they still asked me to take it to a dealer to asses the issue on the pretense that they would evaluate it and phone them back knowing that they weren't going to cover it anyway, seems like a money printing exercise to me...

Anyway..got a brick wall again so phoned a dealership..asked them the same question mentioning the info i gathered here and that it was CAT linked so should be covered..after briefly checking they came back and said it was indeed and that they can book it in for me in a few weeks??

Questions: How can Nissan support a product they know nothing about..deadheads behind a phone. Consumers like you guys know more.

Lesson learned: Take nothing at face value..ask knowledgeable people on forums like this.

Bottom line: Without you guys i'd have been faced with a $2k bill so cant say thanks enough...oh...and when these ones cracked and are OOW i will follow the other advise and get JBA's fitted.

You guys rock...cant thank you enough.

A little late to the party and the decision making process... but still correct...

I had the driver side replaced yesterday - no charge. Unfortunately they didn't think the passenger side was cracked at the time I took it in to have it checked. Now that the driver side is done, they could tell the other is cracked as well. So I have to go back. But they are covering under warranty even though the rest of the truck is not.

Unfortunately we will always find some dumbasses in any industry that do not know what is truly going on. Or just don't want to help.

How can you tell your manifolds are cracked?

What are the symptoms?
Should be able to hear it. Exhaust leak from under the hood. Since I first heard it I have also seen the following things, but they might not all be related to the manifold crack - slight increase in temp gauge, slight decrease in power especially when starting from a stand still, and my MPG has gone down a little. Not sure if all are related to the manifold, but it did start happening at the same time. will find out after second one is replaced.
