How many miles per tank?

I have never taken my Titan on a long trip before and I'm about to take her on a trip of just under 1000 miles.

My question: How many miles can I expect to get out of a full tank? 400 maybe?

I'm not towing anything and my cargo will only be luggage and a cooler.
I'll have me, the wife, and 3 small kids as passengers.
My Titan is 100% stock.
The trip will be 98% interstate so I expect to maintain 75-80 for about half the trip and the other half (LA & TX) around 65-70.

I'm trying to plan my fuel stops so any help is appreciated. Plus this will give us an opportunity to compare mileages.

I have an 04 and the most I have ever gotten out of a tank is 345 miles. Last week when I figured my MPG, it was only 12.8!!

If your Titan is a 2WD and you drive interstate, set the cruise on 70 or less, keep your tire pressure at 40 psi, and drive on mostly flat land, you should get about 400 miles per tank. I do.

I get 275 miles from full to low fuel with my stock 4x4 off road with 33" BFG A/T KO's in 2wd. If I use 4x4 I get less. But I have only owned my truck since november so I hope it gets a bit better with warmer weather. Right now averaging 12mpg.

290 - 350 miles

I think I could go farther, it's supposed to be a 28 gallon tank. But that is when the alarm goes off and the light comes on. It usually takes between 18 and 22 gallons to fill.

I’m almost exactly the same as Nuke. I drove my stock (drop in KN) 04, XE, 4x4, to Des Monies from Denver and I averaged close to 18 mpg with the cruise on 70-75. I would stop when the light came on and would usually put in about 20-22 gallons. I normally get 16 mpg no matter how I drive with mixed hwy and city driving.

On one road trip, I got just a few more than 400 miles on my 2WD KC with BT gears running it to the light. Keep in mind that there were still about 5+ gallons in the tank at the light, so I wasn't in fear of running out of fuel. Most of the time though, it's about 375 miles to the fuel light.

You can get 200 miles to the 1/2 tank mark. If you don't have the Big Tow, 400 miles per tank shouldn't be too unreasonable. If you have the Big-Tow gearing, you might want to plan to stop around every 300-350 miles. Alot of it will depend on the quality of gas you can find, your speed, and wind. It's a windy time of year to be traveling right now. Just keep in mind that the 1/2 mark is not a true 1/2 tank. The needle usually drops a little quicker while running through the second 1/2 tank, especially during the last 1/4.

I have an 09 CC LE 4x4 with Big tow.......

Mine only has 1002 miles on it as of today. I drive 98% city driving. Keeping it at 2000rpm and below I am getting 12.1mpg. This is with cold temps here in Alaska with oxygenated fuel. The mileage will go up some once we get the summer gas here. Last fillup took me out to about 240 miles and 22 gallon fillup.

I was averaging about 17.5 on the highway last month, but alot less mileage.

I guess I left out some details. I have a 2WD. And except for some hills in Alabama it'll be flatland across the Gulf Coast. And I keep my tires at 45psi. And no big tow.

From the replies so far I can see the 4WD models have horrible mileage. I thought mine was bad and I knew 4x4 was worse, just not that much worse, shee-it.

So ya'll think 400's a safe bet? I drive 10 miles to and from work every day around 50-60 mph with only one red-light and I get 350-400 miles before the fuel message comes on. But I didn't know about higher speeds.

Of course, that dang gauge is never right, is it? Like most of ya'll I have the 28 gallon tank and I usually drive it until there's no more "miles left before empty" and then it only takes 20 gallons. So really I had over 100 miles left. But I fill up anyway cuz that message is scary.

Like Quartz said, if you can keep it around 70 mph, you'll do pretty well...after that you may as well be driving in the city. I drove through a tank of gas running on the highway at about 85 mph. I only got a little over 10 MPG...

I have a 2WD, CC, LE w/BT and 33" tires with everything stock. Recently I took an Interstate haul up and down I55 and realized 400 miles before the light came on. When I filld up it took a little over 20 gallons if I remember right. See the post 07 CCLE gas mileage.

Just keep it below 2000 RPM and you should realize 400 mpg.

I just had my first fill up after keeping up with the miles and it was terrible.

Just some background. It is a 2008.5 CC 2wd. During the week it is 3 miles to work then 3 back home at lunch....3 back to work and then 3 back home after work. I usually stick around my house on the weekends but have an occassional trip come up. My drive to work has four turns involved, two fairly good uphill treks, and three red lights (usually only get hit by one). This time around, I had one trip where highway mileage would come into play (not sure of the miles, but about a 45 minute drive). I put a little over 20 gallons in the tank today and my truck was showing 184.5 miles on the last tank of gas.

I admit I've stepped on the gas a few more times than I usually would (can't help it going from a Frontier to a Titan) but I haven't been that bad. I guess it is mostly the terrain and stop-and-go city type driving I have to do going to work and back home. Still, I can't believe it is that bad. That should put me right around 9 miles per gallon. I'm looking forward to taking it on vacation on a good 350 mile trip to get a good idea of what it'll run on the highway. I guess that'll tell me if it is my trip to work that is doing it or if I've been blasting off from stops signs too much :teethmast

for me when the temperature is below 50ºF I get around 11-13 mpg and when its warm I get 14-15mpgs with regular city traffic driving. While on trips I get 16-18 (at best) on highway. You will find that when you have to go up any mild grade of hill you will be getting between 5-10 mpg during that time. I get all my numbers off my scanguage so I usually fill up when I get to about 8-10 gallons left in the tank and that usually gives me about 325-345 miles. Mine is a offroad 4x4 LE so its heavy and has the tow gears. If you have regular gears and 2wd you should easily get 400 miles between fillups out there.
