Hi all, new to the site. Just picked up my 2004 Titan SE Crew Cab 4x4 with Offroad and big tow packages.

When I was looking it over, I noticed that the rear diff had a slight leak to it (just oil stained on the cover) and that a connector was hanging down. I'm pretty sure it was the locker solenoid connector. Anyway, this was replaced by the dealership I bought it at, and they resealed the diff.

Most importantly, the rear diff lock doesn't work. In 2WD, 4Hi, 4Lo, you can switch the rear diff lock on, and the indicator will flash 2-3 times and then turn off. Anytime thereafter if I flip the switch it won't even flash, until shut the truck off then back on again. I realize that it is only supposed to work in 4Lo, but it doesn't even do that.

I intend to do the Austin mod on it once I can figure this out and get the diff lock to work the way it's supposed to from the factory...Any suggestions on how to get it to do so?

It's possible that your Titan used to have the e-locker but the previous owner put in a Tru-Trac instead. Do a burnout and if both tires light up then you have Tru-Trac and you don't need the e-locker.

how would I be able to tell other than a burnout? the connector was busted off so I don't think it was just swapped out...
but when i spin the tires off the line it catches both tires, i got on it for about 3 seconds, I don't want to go replacing tires any time soon...

So, was this connector replaced or repaired? If it's the connector from the chassis to the diff, it serves two functions. It powers the solenoid that engages the diff lock, and also connects a position switch that lets you know when it is locked.

You could jack up the rear so both tires are off the ground and spin one tire. If the tire on the opposite side spins the same direction then you have the Detroit, if it spins in the opposite direction then you either have an open diff or the e-locker and the only way to tell would be to remove the diff cover.

I have a 04 titan SE and my rear diff lock only blinks and blinks at me and will not lock in. Does anyone have a cure for that.
Sometimes you have to let the wheels roll a little for it to engage.
Mine is a little tricky, but it goes in and out eventually.

Yes, the e-locker only works in 4LO unless you do Austin's e-locker mod.

I had the electric control module for the e-locker go bad and this is what happened....light would blink but not engage. when it was bad I also did not have the indicator diagram with the wheels lit up in 4lo, but the 4lo light came on. The diagram lit up in 4hi but not in 4lo. Now that I had the module replaced under warranty I have the wheel diagram lit up in 4lo and the locker works perfectly. But it is still a bit tricky to engage...I think the wheels need to spin at different rates for it to work even when in 4lo. But if you have a tru-trac then you are good to go. Truetrac > elocker.

OP,
I have a 2004 Titan SE Crew Cab 4x4 with Offroad and big tow packages too, but can not find any sign of having the locker. Not even a switch on the dash. Do you have the VDC as well or did you locker switch replace it? (I do have the VDC switch)

The locker switch should be next to the tow button in the middle. If it is gone then you might have a trutrac that was installed and they took out the switch, or maybe not really the offroad pkg.

I'll most likely not do anything to it as it's just my "beater"...bought old & used for work stuff, fishing and hunting. I have not had any troubles with traction. I think the VDC does good for what it is. When I drive on trails and mud I can hear and feel the anti locks activating the brakes so that it throws power to the wheels that normaly spin.

I have gone places in 2wd that my friends and brothers newer trucks (Dodge and Chevy) can't without locking in the 4wd.

Hi i'm new to this forum. so just the other day my diff lock light started flickering on and off then the slip and abs light would come on and the diff light would go off. i took it to a mechanic to have the abs codes check and it gave me c1187- differential lock solenoid. does any one know what this means and Is there any way to fix it?
