Ok just recently I was driving my truck and before I last check the transmission fluid was fine red as it should. I was driving the truck and it recently would start to knock into and out of gear when I would press and release the throttle. And then just the other day it knock again after I started moving and it seemed as it poped out of 1st and 2nd and if it was trying to start moving from 3rd. have to rev to 2k rpm for a while as it slowly starts moving and it will not downshift when trying to go faster when say passing someone. I checked my fluid level the other day and found out it was very low but still a little bit on the dip stick. I ordered some ATF matic-j and installed but it still seems to be doing the same thing. Also my check engine light stays on and AT check light flashes like 6-8 times and goes off. I live pretty far away from a Nissan dealership and do not want to risk driving it that far right now. Any help would be great.

I forgot to add in the morning it will move in 1st for a second and it will then pop out after driving say 30 feet

ok I figured out how to run the diagnostics and codes P1757 P1754 P1764 P1759 and P1111... Anyone help and tell me what codes these are? And if any of them would cause me to go into limp mode?

From everything I've read it sounds like you may need a new valve body. Have you tried a ecu reset?

Yes I did... after I did the ecu reset it would then go into gear for a little while until I come to a complete stop then it would thud and drop into 4th and limp mode again. I did the diagnostics again and the only code that came up was P1111, actually to be more exact the other codes popped up on my first diagnostics while P1111 did not... then on the second after ECU reset check P1111 code only came up.

My truck is in limp mode correct? it is stuck in 4th gear so would it not be safe to drive? the only nissan dealership is 55 miles away and I have to take highway to get there...

I had an exposed wire that gave me TPS issues and put me in limp mode every time the wire got wet, I was stuck in 4th as well on the way to a car show an hour and a half away, and didn't have the time to wait for it to dry,,, I made it there safely with no issues at all on the trans but I don't know if it's exactly safe to do that,,, just my experience I had to take back roads the whole way because it took forever to get up to speed and I didn't exactly feel safe driving it lol

yeah that's exactly the way mine was driving, just keep in mind if you do have a trans issue you may run the risk of making it worse along the way, but if its just a minor issue you should be good

yea I only drove it long enough to get my friend home and me home :p would yours once after sitting for a while turn on and drive normal for a little bit then thud into 4th? Like as if it was not in limp mode but my SEL was still on

Yeah that's exactly what happened, and sometimes it would idle funny at startup as well, while the tps was trying to relearn itself.... Try the tps reset when it starts up normal that helped me get by until I fixed the problem,,, the how to is on here somewhere

when I did the reset it went out of limp mode and the sel turned off but then shortly down the road the sel turned back on and then when I came to a complete stop it dropped back into limp mode and 4th gear

Hey TJ... What was the outcome of this issue??? I just went into limp mode tonight w/ P1579 as my primary SES Code... grabs first gear but won't engage over second... when I manually shift out of first, my tranny just won't engage at all... FAHK!!!!

We have found that nearly always codes P1757 and P1759 (and limp mode as a result) are signs that there is an electrical issue in the valve body. We always inspect EXternal wiring, but it seems that it invariably is INternal to the valve body. Even small amounts of moisture seem to make these valve bodies act up. Thankfully the transmission going into 'limp' mode generally prevents folks from destroying their transmission internals.

As part of replacing the valve body we flush the transmission and address Nissan's Radiator/Transmission Cooler boondoggle by a) bypassing the radiator-based cooler and use just the factory auxiliary cooler or b) (For folks who tow or haul) Bypass the radiator-based cooler and add an after-market trans cooler in addition to the factory auxiliary cooler.

Like I said, most folks come in when the vehicle goes into 'limp' mode, saving their transmission. Repeatedly re-setting the TCM and/or continuing to drive in limp mode is asking for internal transmission damage in addition to the valve body.
