IMHO it is alot easier to change the belt if you remove the air duct as explained in the manual. Otherwise I couldn't line up the holes to lock the tensioner open due to not having enough travel with the breaker bar. There's more room to move the bar on the right side of the coolant hose than on the left and the 2 minutes it takes to remove the ducting is well worth it. Other than that it was an easy job!

I did mine this afternoon in about 10 minutes. Used a ratchet with socket to release tension and remove belt. I didn't 'lock' the tensioner. Got the belt generally in the right place from above, then got under the truck, lined up the belt (particularly on the compressor and crank pulleys), pulled the tensioner from below, slipped the belt back on, and done.
Checked it for alignment from the top (I did need to make a minor adjustment at the fan pulley), cranked it up and all is well.
Best advice I can offer is do most of it from below.

Replaced mine today at 52K mileage (truck had 11k when purchased) Old belt was original and not bad shape but wanted to have piece of mind so replaced it with a Gatorback belt (PN# 4070975). Removed intake to do it and that did make it easier. As has been said, very simple once you move the tensioner and lock it in place using the two holes provided for that purpose.

Did mine alone and only took about 10 minutes once I got the tools out. Did not remove any other parts as described by some others.

This was the top thread when I searched the forum for "drive belt" so I thought I would post to say, yes, this is the easiest job ever.

No bolts to remove. No jacking the truck up.

Just use a socket with a breaker bar to take the tension of the auto-tensioner, pop in a small allen key to hold it, slid the old belt off, slide the new one on.

I was able to do everything from the top no problem. Just popped onto the ground to double check the belt alignment from a different angle when I was done.

Should the belt slide on easily after threading and locking the tensioner back? I insured that it was threaded properly and everything was in the guides.
I purchased a Gatorback belt (4070970) from Rockauto and it will not go over the tensioner. According to the seller this is the correct part. Does anyone know the correct length. This is 97 3\4 inches. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Can anyone tell me the serpentine belt length for a 2005 Titan. I purchased a belt (Gatorback 4070970 ) from Rockauto. According to the seller is it the correct part for my vehicle. My problem is that it will not go over the tensioner pulley. I insured the belt was threaded properly and had the tensioner locked back and it still would not go over the tensioner pulley.
If anyone one has a solution that I have missed please post it. Thanks

The Gatorback part number you want is 4070975, I do not know why everyone has it listed at 4070970, It is not long enough and everyone runs into this issue, Does anyone replace the idler/pulley as well or just the belt unless its obvious the idler/pulley needs to be replaced?

Can someone explain the correct way to change the drive belt (fan belt)on a 2004 Titan. Normal you place a socket wrench on the bolt of the tension pulley but when I turned the bolt it didn't feel right. Any help would be appreciated.
I don't know what you mean by it didn't feel right. But if you want to remove your belt and the bold feels loose than that means you have to replace that pulley.
