I have an '05 CC LE with the Rockford Fosgate 6CD changer and am thinking about finally getting an mp3 player for my truck--I'm sick of fussing with CD's but at the same time I would like to use my steering wheel controls to control the mp3 player, if possible.

Is anyone using some kind of aftermarket adapters to control an mp3 player and if so, which one do you recommend? For various reasons, I do not want to get an iPod and would prefer to get something from Creative Labs or someone else; however, I hope that there are options for non-ipod users wishing to integrate their player with the steering wheel controls.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I also have the 6 disc but I ripped all my music in mp3 format and put them on discs. I currently have 3 discs in right now and all have about 180+ songs on each. That's more than 520 songs on three discs.

Your controls on the steering wheel can jump songs and if you hold the scan putton it will change discs. If you want to scan by folder all you have to do is use the folder button on the dash. This just seems more convenient than worrying about an external mp3 player and it can hold plenty of music. Just my $0.02.

I use the variable bit rate. Yes It will read it in WMA format as well. I believe mp3 files are a little bit smaller so you can fit just a little bit more on each cd. The only bad thing is that you have to select the display to see what song/artist/folder you are listening to. And it doesn't stay on the screen.

Wasn't there an issue with the early '05 RF head units? Mine has worked, uh, as well as the infamous RF system possibly can, but I've never even used the AUX input. If there's a warranty issue, maybe I can see if the dealer will replace the HU with one that does have mp3 capability. Or do they just swap out for an updated but non-mp3-capable unit?

you can press the audio button when a mp3 disc is playing until the "DISPLAY" comes up and then rotate the button to track, artist, or whatever you want it to display and it will stay on the screen. this frustrated me for a while too, and one day i was just pushing buttons to see if i could find that option and it was there.

Every time I do that it doesn't stay up for more than just a couple of seconds.

I put the mp3's on discs also, but I'm not sure what you're talking about when you say you can toggle through folders???

Do you burn the mps on the disc as a data disc with multiple named folders?

Sounds great, but not sure what you mean... it would be great since it takes a while to toggle through 150+ songs to find what you want.

I for one have nothing but great things to say about the RF system...it's one of the best sounding OE systems in a non-ultra upper end car I have heard. Blows away the top line OE system I had in my 05 Tundra (JBL)

I rip my music through Windows Media player. It aoutomatically puts them into individual folders. I then use Nero Express to burn the disc, as a MP3 music disc. When you put the songs onto your 'list' to burn, just highlight the whole folder then hit ADD. This should keep them in seperate folders on your disc. If you don't want all the songs on the album, I go in afterwards and take them off my list.

There is a Folder search button on the top left of your stereo. Hit that either direction and it takes you to the next album. I hope this helps:cheers:
