light snow on highway but dry pavement and not slippery. 2wd, 108 kph with cruise set. 4 or 5 times in 2 hrs I heard what sounded like a very brief ( fraction of a second ) grinding noise and a very slight hesitation of drive. Did not occur when driving in clear conditions with no swirling snow. Are there any sensors that could be affected by the snowy conditions, ie; hubs, abs, speed etc. Thanks

That's your VDC/traction control.

When the VDC system operates, the warning light flashes so note the following:

• The road may be slippery or the system may determine some action is required to help keep the vehicle on the steered path.
• You may feel a pulsation in the brake pedal and hear a noise or vibration from under the hood. This is normal and indicates that the VDC system is working properly.
• Adjust your speed and driving to the road conditions.

It might be a good idea to read your owner's manual.

Nissan traction control is kind of weird to get used to but it works great! Turn it off and see what happens... button should be to the left below the steering wheel. It cuts power to your rear wheels and works the antilock brakes to keep you from fishtailing. I thought something similar first time i experienced this. Its saved me from crashing more than once though. It does sound strange I'll admit but that's normal.

This occurred on the first highway trip after purchase on Feb. 15th so you can see my concern. Thought i was gonna be walking home. love the truck and I’ll have to get used to some technologies. Thanks for your reply

So is the clunk and shudder what I should expect from the vdc engaging, feels like the xfer case or tranny is piling up. If that’s normal it’s just very disturbing, LoL. It’s not the clicking I hear from the wheels spinning on ice when driving away from lights or stop signs. This is a pronounced clunk and hesitation while highway driving. Yes it does it with vdc off . My 2014 Murano has never did this and it has vdc. What sensors are used to determine the need for the vdc to engage. Thanks for any replies

Are you driving in 4wd due to the snow? Could be binding on the dry sections.

I think I might be blaming the wrong system, having searched the forums and the net I believe that the symptoms are of the tranny downshifting. i don’t think that a proper functioning VDC would cause the clunk and shudder that happens unless it is a fault during power down. It may be involved but not the root cause. Has anyone else experienced the problem of intermittent downshifting? How did you solve it? Seems It’s not uncommon but I can’t seem to find a fix anywhere. One person said his tranny did it after an IPDM swap. Could it be a relay or electrical component. when it happens it is very quick and then back to normal driving. Can’t imagine what the snow would have to do with anything but it does not do it on dry roads. Dirty ABS and speed sensor?
