4wd light stays on...

Has anyone had a problem with the 4wd light staying on even though you aren't in 4wd? I went to start the truck the other day and it was dead, so I got a jump (thought maybe I left a light on or something overnight) and after my jump the 4wd light stayed on even though i was in 2wd. I switched it in to 4wd and back into 2wd and the light still stayed on. Also, the display on my dash that shows a diagram of the truck and the tires is not on. It is off and stayed off when I switched between 4wd and 2wd. The Truck is a 2008 Titan LE with 26,000 miles on it. HELP!!! E mail me please if you have any suggestions.. Thank you...:bangit:

The 4wd light is a warning light indicating a malfunction in the 4wd system. Take it to the dealer ASAP. Also, if the wheel diagram is not lit up then it is possible that your truck won't get into park properly. Make sure you use the emergency brake when parking until you get that fixed. I'm not sure if that could be related to having your battery go dead, but I would still have a dealer look at it. You are under warranty on that stuff so just tell them to fix it!

Well, I got back in it about an hour later and it barely started ( I think I have a bad battery) and everything was back to normal. Do you know if people have been having problems with the rear or front Diff. YEAH!. you are right.. it should all still be under warranty, except the battery i think, i think it is a wearable item and not even covered under the prefferred gold package. Thanks for the Help..NBhunter80

Yes and Yes. Alot of rear dif failures, a few front dif failures. Some are related to abuse and neglect, but the design has also been suspect. I think many are related to seal leaks that people don't notice, they drive the truck with low fluid in the difs and they fail. Change the fluid regularily (every 30k or so should be sufficient), and keep an eye open for seal leaks. If you see any oil on your driveway or in the parking lot, check for seal leaks. The 4wd system is pretty good on our trucks, but you should still never use 4wd on dry pavement. Also, NEVER tow someone in reverse 4wd using your tow hooks, otherwise you will destroy the front dif. Tow hooks are for getting towed out by someone else when you're stuck, not for towing somebody while in reverse. Always tow in a forward gear. You don't want to put a load on your truck in 4wd while in reverse...so also don't do donuts in 4wd reverse or anything else stupid like that or you will kill your front dif. You also want to check your rear axle vent and make sure it is not clogged. That has been the cause of a few axle seal leaks. Just make sure the little valve spins on your rear axle and all will be ok. I check mine about once per week or after going in mud and stuff. I have had a front dif pinion seal leak and transfer case seal leak, both were fixed under warranty. After the issue you had I would have the stealership take a look at your truck. If you don't abuse or neglect your truck then you should be ok... the problem could be a result of the battery, but it could also be a problem that could get worse and break something. Have them check it now before something goes bad. Better safe than sorry. Good luck!

Well by now, you probably already figured it out. I had the same problem and it turned out to be the battery. It did funny things like that until one day my truck just didn't start. Got new battery and voila!!!!
