I was going up a gravel road , my rear drivers side wheel spun a little and then there was a knocking,, sounds like it is in the rear end of May be in the trans.is does it when I put torque on the drive train..help !!! I don't won't to mess it up to bad, don't do it as bad in four wheel drive, but in 2wheel drive it sounds like the rear end is going to fall out

Thanks for your reply, but my ability to work on this truck was NOT the question.. Please , let's just stick to whether or not you have an opinion of what could be wrong with the truck.
It's a tough call from where I sit.
I doubt it is in the trans. The re5r05a trans is tough as nails for the most part.
The fact that the symptoms lessened in 4WD makes me suspect it chewed up a spider gear in the diff.

A big noise that goes clunk clunk clunk with rotation is usually a broken tooth. Not chipped. Broken.
Next move for you is to drain the diff, check for metal in the oil, and then pull the cover.
Expect the worst from what you described.

what year is your truck? 4x2 or 4x4? If 4x4 do you have the OEM E-locker? Also, does it pop when you make hard right or left turns?
2004 4x4 it's got the differential look button up front.. Yes , it pops bad in two whelk drive when turning left
Sounds like you blew your spider gears out.... bad news. Hate to say it but Walrus is right, your ability to work on the truck has now become relevant. I would start by popping the diff cover off and looking for chunks of metal.

I just did the same, did the install myself. Might be worth your while to inquire how they plan to solve the different length axle issue. My solution after talking to a few shops including 4x4parts.com (a site vendor here) was to purchase an axle for a 4x2 to replace my passenger side axle.
