30K and my hood is rusting. This paint is absolutely horrible, especially on the hood. It is so thin, it just flakes off from rock chips. It shouldn't chip down to bare metal.
Im trying to get the dealer here to take care of the problem, they say it is normal wear and tear, I call BS. Ive never had any vehicle, even my POS 78 pinto, that had such ****ty paint.

I know im not the only one that is having theses problems, I told them I would bring a list other Titan owners and elevate the problem to someone who would at least Try to look into it.

If any of you are having similar issues, please comment with your problem.

Check the Thread "Paint Chips"

I am currently battling Nissan for a similar problem. I have an appoitment with the North American rep for NC because I have paint peeling and rust on my tailgate. I also have a problem with paint chips on my hood. Call 1 800 nissan1 and document this problem.

The paint is also very thin just in front to the back wheel wells on the bottom. This paint is awful and I am taking my truck back to the dealership to document this problem, does anybody have any advice on how to pursue this with Nissan?

Frustrated Nissain Owner

This is my follow up: I took my truck back to the dealership and did not come away too happy. I had several people look at my truck including the man that sold it to me. For the most part most of them agreed with me that the paint chipping was excessive until I asked them what they were going to do about it. Long story short they decided that since my paint was not peeling it wasn't a warrenty issue and that they have never heard of this being a problem. I told them they were full of it and asked for the corporate number. They gave me 1-800-Nissan1, not the coporate number but a good place to start. I spoke with a Consumer affairs representative about my experience. He said that he would make a few phone calls and somebody would contact me in 24-48 hours. I am waiting to hear from Nissan. My advice to all Titan owners, if you have a complaint about your paint take your truck to the dealer you got it from and have your case documented. Then call the 800 number above. This is the way to get Nissan to recognize the problem and then do something to fix it. Remember the noisey wheel gets the grease! I will be calling Nissan everyday.

Im having the exact problem areas. Even my tailgate. The factory installed bedliner is rubbing the paint off and it is now rusted. Again, "normal wear and tear" is what the customer no-service people at the dealer told me.

I just want everyone with similar problems to post up.

My 2005 Titan is chippong on the hood and both front fenders. Had the same experience with my Nissan dealer today. Called it rock chips and would not warranty. I am going to contact corporate offices and attempt to get names and addresses of people with similar problem and possible class action law suit to get warranty repairs.

I have problem with the hood and front and rear fenders. The dealer said they are rock chips and will not warranty. I am going to contact the corporate office and complain. I will also attempt to find as many Titan owners with the same problem and attempt to force Nissan to take care of their responsibility without lawyers involved.

I've got some chips in the paint on the flat part my hood for some reason... don't know about the leading edge since I've had a bug guard on it for a long time. to get the chips on mine it seems you'd have to be dropping something vertically onto the hood... and I don't park under any trees or anything like that. I have a few chips on the side of my truck, and having observed some of the incidents that caused those chips, I'd say that the paint is too brittle on the whole truck (except the front bumper) and extremely brittle on the hood for some reason. I know that paint manufacturers put a flex additive in paint that is going to be applied to urethan bumpers, so that's probably why my front bumper is holding up better than the hood even though the bumper area takes a hell of a lot more beating than the hood does.

i remember several years ago when the 3rd-gen RX-7's came out, and they were prone to having paint chips, especially on the leading edge of the rear wheels (just behind the doors). mazda acknowledged the problem and said that the paint was too brittle and they reformulated the paint with a flex additive to remedy the situation on later production runs. I don't know if they actually fixed anyone's car that had the brittle paint or not.

See my thread My 04 Nissan is a Lemon...I have the same problem with peeling paint and dealer as well as nissan rep said that is because of high pressure wash. It has never seen a high pressure wash! My 99 Tahoe on the other hand went through many car washes and never had a problem even when I traded it on the Titan the paint was near perfect.

I'm a painter and can vouch the paint on this truck is horrendous, in thickness terms it's less than 1.0mil which is very subpar for a OEM paint job most paint jobs are in the 1.6 to 2.2 mil thickness level. The problems are little to no primer, only 1 coat of base, and 1 coat of clear, how the hell can you protect a 30k investment with a 200.00 paintjob?? I already have planned to sand off all this nasty *** clear and reshoot the basecoat, and put on a pearl midcoat, and shoot 3 coats of clear and that should be way more durable that the crud that is on my truck now, I have atleast 40-50 small chips on my front of my hood/bumper and this is due to how brittle the paint is, if they wouldve used a durable polyurethane paint like ppg we wouldnt be having these problems..

I have a 2005 KC and it only has 9,400 miles on it. It has scratches all over the truck. When I asked the local Nissan dealership if there have been any complaints about the paint job , he said no. I explained that my truck had scratches in odd spots that should not be there. He wanted me to specifically find each and every scratch and pit so he could inspect it. This was in January when the truck was covered with salt. It seems that this is a problem across the board. I also put this complaint in the survey that I received from Nissan.

I noticed at the auto show that the Titans paint seem a lot duller then most of the other cars and trucks, I have a buddy that put an extra clear on his Altima and it looks super shiny.

my 07 is silver. Maybe they paint the bed better or something, because I've put steel lawn furniture, lumber, metal bar stools... you name it, lots of stuff to scratch it because I'm planning on putting in a spray on liner, and they need to "scuff" the surface anyhow, so I'm not terribly careful, I almost want it to scratch.

It has NOT scratched, dinged, anything at all yet. the clear is a bit scraped, but nothing down to the metal, which is what I kinda wanted to happen. I had the dealer put in a bug shield at the factory.... and have had not a single rock ding, and I was behind a sand truck a few weeks ago... still looks good.

I'll edit my post as soon as I see a single ding, but they may have changed the paint for '07... or maybe they spray the silver thicker? hell, I don't know.

My little bro's '87 nissan pickup has the same silver (it was called platinum back then) no scrapes, only a few rock dings. 150,000+ miles. maybe they're getting cheaper on the paint.

Here is my truck. Sad part is, the paint was this bad BEFORE I put the lift and larger tires on, they aren't what caused it.

The paint on my fuel door started blistering last summer for no apparant reason. I took it down to the dealer and they tried to say I spilled gas on it. I responded with "well, last time I checked fuel would run down the side of the truck with the door open if gas spilled". They agreed to have it resprayed after testing the paint depth to see if I had had it painted before. Corporate finally agreed to fix it.
On a side note, I was next to a 07 Silverado the other day and noticed that the truck had the worst orange peel I had ever seen other than at macco. i thought the Titan's had it bad, the Chevy made the Titan paint look like a Ferrari's. It seems that every mass produced vehicle is getting thinner and thinner, and chittier paint than ever.

mine doesn't chip, mine scratches. giving the car to a valet is not longer an option.

washing it hurts, because no matter what i buy to wash it (can't even reuse the supplies) i still end up with micro scratches.

but the actual damage is from bird poop on the hood where the paint cracked and flaked (i spot clearcoated it to prevent it coming off) and scratches (mostly when the idiots at the valet backed it into a bush) from the air itself.

the mud flaps + side steps have prevented the sandblasted effect many people are getting on the sides. and it's a miracle as i rip on dirt roads with 60 often

54Warrior my paint looks exactly like yours and I also complained to the dealer about the poor paint job with no avail. Dealer told me that since I drive on some dirt roads that this is to be expected(to bad my dodge never chipped). I took the truck to a buddy at ABRA auto boddy and he said the paint was a joke and that is why I complained. I guess when i trade the truck in I will just have to keep it dirty. By the way the dealer also agreed if it does not get fixed by next winter(MN) it will start to rust.
