Bully Dog Model Differences

I see so many postings here about Bully Dog tuners and I have to ask because of my confusion. What is the difference between Bully Dog Power Pup and BDGT or the Triple Dog? Do all work with all models of Titans? Is one better than the other? Is there one that is simpler to use for those who are barely delving into the Tuner world?? Thanks for any replies! :)

if you check out their website you can see more specific details but to answer your questions -

- diffefence between powerpup and GT - GT has a display to monitor ecu parameters, power pup does not

- triple dog is the GT, no difference
- there is a separate unit called the WATCHDOG which is just the display with monitoring features, no tuning capabilities.

- the powerpup and GT only work with 05+ models

- they are both very simple to use, no tuning knowledge required. get the GT though it will be useful having the display and a better resale value. you'll be able to sell it for what you paid for if you buy it used. they generally go for $275-$300 (average) on here, or you can buy new from one of the supporting vendors on here.

good luck, don't be intimidated its an easy process and it will really wake your truck up.

The power pup will only monitor from what I understand. The BDGT is all the same part number (for all the vehicles that they provide tuning) all you do is choose which vehicle it is. The BDGT is what you want because that is the one you can tune with.

Beat me to it. lol

BullyDog had the PowerPup as their first product.

But has now been replaced by:

BullyDog BDGT #40410 is ONE part number that will fit many applications. So if you sell, upgrade to another unit. It can be easily SOLD to a Ford, Chevy, Dodge, and many other applications. BullyDog has great support for any questions you may have.

The Triple Dog looks like the above but with a different part number and made for Diesels.

BullyDog also has the Watch Dog and is great for just a monitor or people who still have the PowerPup. It Does NOT allow for adjustment.

Mike the website now states that the BDGT #40415 replaced the #40410 for Nissan. Some folks are saying if we update the #40410 we will lose the ability to use it on our trucks. I did not buy mine from TAP, but was wondering for the folks that have. What is the protocol for this. If we update and lose Nissan, who is responsible to replace the unit?

Sorry if this is hijacking this thread. I'm trying to find the thread where the guy had an issue with his Bully Dog after updating? I did a few different searches and can't find it. I know that Mike is saying that you can update without issues but I just want to find out if the gentleman ever got his issue fixed?

the power pup does NOT monitor. The bdgt has the monitoring capabilities. With the PP you plug in, do the tune, then unplug when ur done. I got my power pup from a member here for $150 used an I've seen others for around the same price. With the PP you can choose from stock tune, regular tune(85-87 oct. fuel) and premium tune (91-93 oct. fuel)U can also adjust the speed limiter, adjust timing, adjust idle rpm, get rid of the wot restriction and read & erase engine codes. U can even do the timing and adjust idle rpm's on other titans while its still married to your ecu. For around $150 it's a really good deal.

So, you are can do the +2 advance on the timing with the Bully Dog? I thought that is how people were doing it.

#14 ·
The BDPP can adjust the timing +- 2 degrees on most Nissan/Infiniti vehicles. What's nice with the Pup is that you can do this while it's still married to your vehicle, unlike the BDGT.

Mike, I am confused about what you said about the Bully GT 40410. We should wait 60-90 days to do the update to be current with the new model?
If we do not, will this effect emmission inspection?

The #40410 part numbers on the shelf are going to replaced with the new part number. Once you update it will change the part number to the new one. Another update will be completed within 60-90 days and should have the CARB E.O. number that California for SMOG reasons. None of the parameters of the Titan settings have been changed. Only the Part number itself. Most SMOG machines plug into your OBD-II port so you'll have to disconnect your BDGT. The settings you have on the truck i.e. (Stock, Performance, Extreme) should not affect the smog test. What I did for my smog was put it back to stock settings, allow them to do the test and once it passed with flying colors I reloaded the software. I don't it made a difference but i didn't want to take a chance and waste my time. Putting the BDGT back to stock can be done within MINUTES. AND YES, it was a painful drive on the STOCK SETTINGS. Lol

I'm glad you asked the question Shogunles. I'm purchasing a BDGT off of a member and don't want to update it unless everything will work fine now.

I just tried to e-mail Bully Dog. There is a problem with their site and the mail did not go through. Chances are that whomever you bought it off of did not update the firmware. You can ask him to be sure. They do have a very good customer service department. They were good to me anyway. If you connect the tuner to your PC via the data wire, a tech can take over your computer in order to update or any else that needs to be done. You can do the updates 2 ways as well. Either via the data wire from PC to tuner or inserting the micro SD CArd into the card reader into the USB Port on you PC. I usually connect the tuner to the PC. That SD Card is real easy to loose. Keep it all together.

Mike, thanks for the information.

Thanks Mike. I will wait a bit until they sort out the entire issue. Also, you mentioned changing back to stock before inspection. I was told not to change the tunes right before the inspection because it will wipe the computer clean, for lack of a better expression, and the truck will fail inspection.

Probably. I know there is certain amount of miles you have to drive after you change tunes for it to show up on the computer. I forget the exact amount though.
