Bully Dog 40410 - Bully Dog Triple Dog GT Tuners

Is this essentially the next generation power pup with graphical display and features added to it? Meaning, does it retain the WOT Restriction removal along with all the other features of the Power Pup?

Not bad for $399.00 if that's the case.

#2 ·
It supposed to do everything the Pup does plus the added features.

No, but I think the Superchips will in the near future. One of our members has a beta build or something and his allows him to change shift points.

In case anyone's interested Jegs and Summit have it for $399.00.

Only difference seems to be Jegs states it will ship in 4 weeks, and Summit states May 15th.

Is it wireless like where you plug something into your OBD port and then it transmit the signal to the unit itself?

Not sure how it maintains constant connection. Odds are you run it behind the dash and it plugs into the ECU port. Won't know til I get it.

Ordering it as we speak! ;)

I have this programmer on my 08 titan. It worked great I did NOT get an improvement in fue milage though. Also my dealer claims that it has caused me to lose 2 fuel injectors, although I don't believe them (see my thread on this forum) The BDGT did give me a noticeable gain in power though. The "increase" actually comes from the WOT being changed though. Constant connection is possible because it stays plugged in to the diagnostic port via HDMI.

Its a very nice unit. You plug it into the OBD port and then plug it into the back of the GT. There is also a slot for a SD memory card for datalogging. I'll do a full write up for eveyone as soon as I have one in my hands again.

After speaking with my cousin up in Maine I'm now waivering between the Cortex and the BullyDog. He has the Bullydog on his Diesel and says the 2 year powertrain warranty speaks for itself compared to the BullyDog's 1 year. That coupled with added features and the fact that Superchips has been in the business longer on gas tuning. Not sure if I agree or not.

The BDGT's lack of shift point editing is one factor, but overall, whats your opinions on the two units.

Cortex or GT tuner?

#520 ·
I just switched form cortex to the BDGT. I love this thing! waty better then the superchips. I love the throttle sensativity adjustment, the live data feed, and how much i realy woke my truck up. I know UPREV is the ideal, but if your like me and buy alot of things at autozone you can get a pretty good price. I got $80 off with my reward points. not too shabby

#16 ·
You are correct on that info. I was happy with my BD but I wanted to try out the SC. My first imperssion with the SC was really surprising. To me it seems like it pulled harder than the BD using the 87 tune. The SC 87 tune feels a little like the BD 91 tune. But I will get to play around with the BD tune again and see how it compares to the SC. I want have track times but if my boy ruby wants to take the SC to the track with his BD I will let him.

Currently, there isn't a product available anywhere that offers the features and functionality the GT does. Especially, for the $399 price. Its an easy choice for most. I would expect to see more and more handhelds up for sale soon from those looking to upgrade.

#47 ·
are you saying that you adjusted the fuel to be able to run your turbo. if this is true then i could run a supercharger and cams and be able to tune mine, corect?

if this is true then i want one.

#19 ·
Damn that means the powerpup is done. No cool updates tune adjustments or anything. My powerpup is going up for sale very soon. As soon as I feel like calling uprev.

I doubt the power pup will be going anywhere anytime soon. It will continue to receive the same tuning updates as the new GT. The upgrade comes from the fact that the power pup wasn't designed to support a full color display, datalogging, real time monitoring, and an expandable memory slot.

I'm sure there are people who have been on the fence about which handheld to buy and I'm sure there are some that like to have the newest product available. This way new guys to the boards can get a power pup at a great price and this will help offset the cost of the GT for the guys itching to get their hands on one.

For a long time the main advantage for Uprev was the datalogging and real time monitoring. The GT has that covered and doesn't require a laptop. They have always offered the ability to advance or retard the timing up to 2 degrees. If they could offer the same adjustability for the fueling then you could likely be able to adjust the tune yourself for most if not all bolt-ons. The only real reason I could see to use custom tuning would be for the older trucks swapping cams, +07 manifold swap, and forced induction and hopefully a tb.

#22 ·
SUUUURE, they'll make it with fuel adjustability. Yeah, u can probably tune it for headers even... pffff, whatever it's limitless everyone has a laptop or knows somebody with one they can borrow for the cost of a 6 pack and ride along. they will NEEVER do custom tuning nor let anyone adjust fuel curves enough to put a vehicle with headers well into its correct mapping. if they do I'll be the 1st to apologize as it stands and either way I'm ditching the power pup in the next couple weeks and will be getting uprev. like I said in the bully dog section, they can keep supporting Dodge and see how far that gets them ;)

The tuning between all tuners are extremely similar, some may modify the throttle sensitivity or add changing tunes on the fly to seperate themselves, but there really isn't much more you can do to improve the results and still stay safe. I doubt that anyone is going to feel the difference from a 10hp or 10tq increase at the wheels on a truck that is already making very respectable power. That is why you modify the throttle sensitivity to make it "feel" faster since it has no effect on power output.

As for adding the fuel adjustability, it was just a suggestion. They already offer the timing advance/retard. It would make an already outstanding item even more attractive. If not, you will still see what other owners combos are seeing as far as the a/f ratio and that will help people make better decisions on what combos they can run and still be plenty safe without custom tuning.

Take my tuning for the turbo. I've seen more then 12psi and made more hp and tq then what I've posted. The same goes for my track times. You only need so much power to run the number I wanted at the track and anything over that is just showing off and not playing it safe. Toomnymods can tell you that I have no issue with turbo lag, and no issue making my truck move down the street or the track. I offered him the keys but he settled for a ride with 3 others in my truck that weighs in at 5300lbs with me alone. One ride with me made him decide to go turbo. AFAIK, I'm the only titan that has been kicked off the track and told not to return until I have a driveshaft safety loop installed and a helmet.

The correct statment would have been.."There isn't another product that offers more for the price."

But the way you worded it is wrong

Uprev offers more. Way more....Also, every truck runs much differently. These trucks do not respond even close to the same on different tunes, I've had experience with this myself.

No, its accurate. You can get a mail in tune just for your vehicle from Uprev for $400 but no way to monitor if the results are going to keep you safe. If you want Cipher its another $300. For the same price as the mail in tuning, you get a GT with tuning available for just about every Nissan/Infinity model from 05+, along with tuning for Chevy, GMC, Ford, Lincoln, Dodge, and Cadillac. And you get the monitoring and datalogging.

All in one unit, without the need for a laptop. And think of how much easier it will be to sell a GT compared to a flashed ecu with the mail in tune option being used. And there isn't as much of a difference in the maps as your being led to believe.

I decided to hold off and wait until a proper review is done on the GT. Not in a hurry to be a guinea pig with my warranty to be perfectly honest. ;)~

Oh well...

I need to find someone in South Florida with a BD or Cortex and just pay them $20.00 for the removal of the WOT restriction. That's basically all I want right now.

#29 ·
Doesn't work that way, another BD can adjust your timing, but it cannot remove the WOT restriction. You can only remove the WOT restriction on the same vehicle it is married to. Only the BD can adjust the timing on unmarried Titans.

#27 ·
does the GT offer 2 degree timing advance? I like the display, but the lack of 2 degree timing advance might stop me from buying the BD GT. I have heard that BD has terrible customer service, and the 2 year warranty from SC sounds appealing. If the SC had 2 degree timing advance I would probably buy it. Decisions....grr

#28 ·
The GT will do everything the power pup does and more.

#32 ·
Let me throw this out...Several guys have mentioned changing shift points....Just were would you have them & why?
Raising them would be a waste without a bigger throttle body or bigger cams....

#33 ·
I wish I could lower my shift points. It seems that my Titan starts to run out of steam before it shifts.

#35 ·
Anybody ACTUALLY use this on their truck yet? Reviews please?

#40 ·
Summit has shipping dates of 5.15 while Jegs says 6.2 - mine's been on order with Jegs since early April. I'll let you know when I actually get it, if others haven't first. :eyebrow:

Nothing but hype from a single source that I've seen so far...

That guy is a terrible source for information and I wouldn't listen to anything he has to say. He never delivers on anything he says. True story.

I agree, the torque curve nose's over way before it shifts....
