Clarification on Transmission Fluid For Titan

I would just like some clarification on the type of Transmission Fluid we are to use. I've done some research and wondering is it true that using any other fluid then "Nissan ATF J Matic Transmission Fluid" will void your warranty and Nissan's reason is that its specially formulated for Nissan Trucks.

Now I want to switch over to Amsoil ATF Universal Transmission Fluid which on the Amsoil Website AMSOIL - Synthetic Universal Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) that it is compatible with the Nissan ATF J Matic Fluid.

My question is if I change over will it.
A: Void My Warranty
B: Has anyone Amsoil anf if they did what has been there experience good and bad
C: If I changed it, and something did happen would Nissan know that it was changed.

Little background I have a 2008 Nissan Titan PRO4X with 40,000km or 25,00miles half of that thoses miles have been hauling my 20 Foot Travel Trailer and Quad up to BC, Yukon and Alaska. Lots of hard heavy hauling up steep 10 - 20% grades (Yes there is 20% Grades up where I go :teethmast) So I like to change things early and use only the best I have changed everything in my Titan other then my Transmission to Amsoil.

Yes if they can prove you have other than Nissan trany fluid they can void your warranty. I think that is BS because if that is the case they should supply the trany fluid but thats my opinion.

Now Amsoil ATF is better and I have been using it without any problems.

Nissan cannot require you to use Nissan fluid blessed by and exclusively available at your local Nissan Kiosk. See Magnusson Moss Act.

If the AMSOil fluid claims to be compatible with the Nissan fluid (which it does) than you would have the legal grounds to defend yourself by standing on that claim.

Nissan would easily be able to discern non-Nissan fluid in the trans by performing a simple lab analysis, which would be prudent to get done anyway if either party starting talking about legal action.

But ALL of these points don't matter. Plenty of people are using the AMSOil fluid, you'll be fine. Just do it.

Didn't Nissan just change over to the S-Matic ATF fluid, which replaces the J-Matic? I don't know what the implications are if you use a J-Matic compatible fluid instead. However, J-Matic is probably what's called out in your owner's manual.

ya, I bought it used this spring, now I am up to 45,000 miles. I ordered the trans filter from amsoil and the mechanic told me that it would not fit and that it was a dealer only item, I guess I am having trouble trying to figure out why he would tell me that when he could have just flushed and filled it and told me I didn't need the filter kit.

I have used Amsoil ATF in ALL of my Nissan's including the Titan and never had any issues. The Amsoil Universal ATF is compatible with Matic-S and Matic-J. As per the warranty issues, I have it on authority from the local dealership service manager that Amsoil will NOT void a warranty. As stated here, the law requires them to provide it free if it is not a "equal or greater" allowance. He further went on to tell me that he and almost all of his mechanics use Amsoil personally in all their vehicles.

He did say that individual dealerships can give fits at the Service Manager's discretion but that he doesn't know of anyone that would, since it is a superior fluid. Also, he said that Nissan Corporate would not fight it, nor has in any situation he knows of. He has been in Nissan service for almost 20 years... so I guess he would know.

We have a winner! 98% correct! You maybe on the hook to authorize the inspection of the damage first, but once it is found to be warrantable, you will not have to pay a dime!!
