Code c1142 - Pressure sensor (ABS)?

So my slip light came on yesterday and stayed on all evening. I woke up, went for a drive and it was still on. Stopped at the dealership and they said they pulled a c1142 code for the ABS pressure sensor. I am out of warranty on this particular thing and the diagnostic to figure out what exactly it was would have run me $150. They told me it did not interfere at all with the operation of the truck or the brking system so I decided not to do the diagnostic / repair. They then told me that depending on what part is affected, it could cost anywhere from 300 to 1500 dollars to fix! :teethmast:crying:

Anyone have experience withthis particular problem? If so, do I have any options?

Thanks in advance,
Shawn

Hmm...pressure sensor? I'm guessing that would be up by the master cylinder or abs motor to sense pressure on the system. I believe the only thing at the wheels is the sensor ring for wheel speed. Never really looked too closely but see what is plugged in/around the motor and cylinder. Try searching a bit on here or maybe someone with access to a manual or first hand experience will chime in and give you what you are looking for. I'm sure if you can locate it there are some specs it can be tested against for a definite answer on its condition. Or maybe I'm totally wrong, it is almost bed time for me...

Here's the deal....

There's 2 sensors, and most likely the code is from a bad sensor, BUT the code doesn't say which one...

You can do a visual to check the wiring, dis-connect, re-connect to check for corrosion. If you feel it's just a bad sensor, then replace just one, clear the codes and start all over...If the light stays out, you got it on the first try, if not, then switch the sensors front and rear, this will take care of you issue if it's the sensor...Check the price for one...

Thanks again, loufish. I will have some time this weekend to mess with it. They reset the code at the dealership when I went to get it looked at and the light hasn't come back on since. Basically, I just want to know if there is any danger of driving on this; will it cause any other damage, etc? The dealership says no, but I don't trust them.

I don't trust dealers either....

There won't be any damaged caused by a sensor failure, but you most likely lose your ABS or ABLS....If part of the ABS sets a code, the system doesn't trust it anymore, so it shuts down the ABS...

Hey Guys just got back from the dealership as my Slip light has been on steady for a week , they pulled code C1142 - due to failed rear diff. pressure sensor switch, they quoted 419.00 to fix but I would like to know exactly which sensors are these the ones in the rear hubs or the ones on the master cylinder ? So I can replace myself thanks.

These are on the MC.

That's the best price I have seen. Is that for both of them?
