Does anybody use the stepbars?

Does anyone use the factory stepbars for getting in and out of the truck? I had some on my last truck and nobody used them for entry and exit. I think they were to close to the body and/or door. They added to the looks and protected the truck in parking lots so they weren't a total waste.

All the time, being "under-tall" and having little kids, we use them everytime we get in the Titan.

Personally, I think they detract slightly from the looks because they don't follow the clean lines of the truck. However, I use them every time I get in my truck because I don't like sliding my butt across the left side of the seat every time I get in and out. Doing so would eventually put excessive wear on the leather in that spot.

Me: 5' 10", spouse: 5' 7".
Had truck for 3 weeks without them. Wife struggled but accepted it.
With steps, awesome. I nor wife would be without them. I can now get into the cab with a large cup of hot Starbucks, filled to the very top, without spilling a single drop.
That in itself is worth their price. Can't understand why they're not a std feature.

No scratches in 12K miles, snow, mud and 2 dogs. Unless you count that small rub with a boulder - saved some bodywork though!

i just use the "oh sh!t handle to pull me up in the cab. im 6'3". i found the steps on my pathfinder just got my pantlegs dirty. oh well, if you have em and like em, thats great too.

I would have to agree with goathead. I had a 01 Pathfinder with the steps and they always managed to get my wife and I dirty. I liked the looks of them on the Pathfinder but do not think they look as good on the Titan. I am 5'10" so it may depend on your height and ability to get in and out of the truck that makes the final decision more clear. I personally decided not to get them this time...

They came with my LE and I took them off. I'm 6'2" and don't really need them to get in or out, plus I like the way it looks without them. If I ever lift the truck I'll probably put them back on.
I only like them on 4wd models.......2wd models are close enough to the ground without the steps.......

The only use I found on the Xterra was using them for washing the roof and entering/exiting the vehicle at the launch ramp next to the floating dock when I had to step down into the truck. They are too high on the Xterra already I think to be of help to a passenger for entering the truck. They definitely protected me from door dings though!!

I don't use them to get in or out myself, but they've come in very handy for passengers that can't quite make it in without them. I also really like the way they look. I have found them to be a huge advantage when I'm washing/waxing the truck, the lip on the roof gives me something to hold on to and I'm able to reach the entire roof when I'm standing on them.

100% Ditto. Every single time in or out. 5'-8" with 2 small kids.

I use them and I make sure my passenges use them as well. The reason is I dont want people dragging there a$$ across the edge of the seat when getting in and out of the truck. Not doing this can cause the edge of the leather seats to crack and wear.

I am 6' so I wouldn't use them but I once had one of my friends ride in the back of my KC which possed a problem because she is 5'. I was thinking boy if I were smart I would have put on running boards because there also are no handles in the rear of the cab. Some day I will pay off the truck or get get married and end up putting them on.

I guess it's kinda a personal preference thing. If you have them and don't use them to get out, you will often get mud or dirt on your pants leg as it rubs up against them. They also get in the way when off roading.

I don't have them, but I'm same height as Sammy, 6'2". Don't have a need for them. I can see how they might also decrease the amount of ground clearance. If you get high-centered on the step rails, that's probably not a good thing.

I have been told that step rails have caused exterior damage to other makes of trucks where the vehicle would not have normally been damaged without having them installed.
I think in these instances, the vehicle would have only MAYBE scraped the bottom of the frame rails, but because of the lower ground clearance over small variances in terrain or upon summiting a small hill, the rails were pushed up into the bottoms of the doors/bed sides and caused body damage.

Please note, this is hearsay from several 'buddies' and I have never had step rails on a pickup so if this is impossible to happen on a Titan, then disragard.

I see a bunch of used sets on Ebay. Does that mean all the tall people are getting rid of their step rails?

The way the step rails are constructed underneath with 3 'hook' like mounts and the bar 'resting' on them, I could see easily how they could get caught up on something and possibly how the rail could get bent up into the door panels at the bottom. For serious Off-Roading excusrions I would remove them before play. Its only 6 nuts and 6 bolts total to remove them.

I am 5'6" and the wife is 5'0". There is no way she can get into the truck without stepping up on them. I step on them to get in and just step over them to get out. My wife's best friend is only 4'10" and definately needs them. Without them her 6'0" husband would be picking her up like a little doll and placing her in the seat.

Use them like rrumaner. I like them, nice to step in, center onto seat, no problems with accidently activating the power seat controls. First time I have ever had them on a truck and this is the third truck I've owned. Kids and other vertically challenged ease in with them too.
