Please help me, I am getting alot of hesitation when i give it the gas. I am tired of dealing with the dealer. All they say is that its fine thats normal. My other two trucks sure dont do it. This is my first nissan and I just dont understand why this would be normal. Please someone help. Please let me know if this can be corrected and how.

Can't wait for a reprogrammer to come out for the Titan! Unfortunately, it's normal. If you floor the pedal from a complete stop, the Titan won't start pulling until around 2500 rpm. Try 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and then floor it. Try tapping the throttle, your head should snap into the headrest as the Titan has a heavy tip-in, but if you floor it, nothing. Damn engineers trying to make the world safe.

 

Are Titans drive-by-wire? There is always some hesitation on those. My 03 Accord does the same thing.

Do you have a floor shifter or Column. I notice with my Colmun shifter, if you do not click into drive (D), even thought it shows you are in (D) you actually are still in neutral.

I am pretty sure that the Titans are throttle-by-wire, and for that matter, respond like any computer controlled mechanism. Kind of like in a fly-by-wire aircraft, the computer senses the amount of input the pilot (driver) is requesting, but will only give the amount that it feels is safe for the system. Hence, when you floor it the ECM basically says "yeah right" and only gives you the maximum amount it feels is safe for the engine.

Yeah, I forgot about the learning curve for the computer Over time the hesitation should improve once it "learns" your driving habits.

I am approaching 4000 miles, and I have noticed the hesitation has decreased.

Kind of like this 'throttle-by-wire' approach. Pretty high tech...

 

Do you have VDC, if so turn it off, see if its better. VDC is pretty intrusive espcially when you nail it from a stop, if your making a right turn and nail it to get out into traffic it won't move, sits there for a precious second then goes. With it off however I find myself doing way to many uninteded burnouts. It would be nice to have the VDC switch on the steering wheel as I find myself frequently turning it off and on.

The lag when heavy throttle is applied is native to the drive by wire throttle set-up. I actually experienced a different kind of hesitation while towing. I had a 500lb quad in the bed and I was pulling a 10 foot utility trailer with a 400lb quad and a Dirt bike on it. Couldn't have been more than 3,000lbs total. While lightly accelerating up a Frwy on-ramp I got a pulsating sensation which promptly went away if I let off the gas or got on it a little more. Anyone had this problem??? I thought maybe it was detonation and the computer compensating or something??? I run Unocal 76 Unleaded '87 Octane religiously. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Was it hot out? Maybe your problem was related to heat soak.

 

Mine does the same hesitating. I just thought of it as a Titan quirk

 

the problem im having with the acceleration is taking off from a dead stop with very little pressure on the throttle. the truck will start to move then hesitate as if it died. when I add more throttle it lurches forward and takes off.
the funny thing is that the dealer gave me a loaner truck two days before I purchased this one and it did the same thing only a lot more often.
this is the third Nissan titan I have owned and the other two never did this.
im looking for feedback or other web sites with info about this problem so I can show it to the dealer who claims he doesn't know what I am talking about.
please help if you can.

Camshaft position sensor back of motor driver side should get rid of the hesitation.

 

I have a 2004 Titan and it has always hesitated when I try to accelerate quickly from a low speed. Upon reading about the wide open throttle (WOT) restriction, I always thought this was the cause. I wish that my Titan would accelerate better but I'm not about to buy a programmer, Uprev or similar, to remove the WOT restriction. I just live with it.

 

Its called VDC, when you give the truck gas and the wheels slip it will cut power to the engine, it is natural for your truck to do this. If you see your slip light on when you feel the hesitation, then your truck is working fine. You can turn it off by using your VDC button in the middle lower part of your console. Most have the button, but some did not come with it. The WOT restriction does not make your truck hesitate, it just keeps you from giving the truck full power on acceleration from a stop.
