Hi all, I'm looking to lift my truck a couple inches but I don't know where to start. I've an '04 4x4 in need of new shocks and probably struts. I'm looking at the RC 3" leveling kit. So my question is.. What shocks and struts should I get and what else do I need??

Thanks!!

If you got with the RC kit get Billstein 4600's all around. The 5100's are adjustable to gain more height, but you wouldn't be able to do that with the 3" kit or you would blow the cv shafts.

I hate to burst your bubble, but the RC "3" inch lift only lifts the front end 2.5", not 3". In other words, it's a 2.5" spacer.

If im reading correct he is doing shocks or pro4x coils that would be a total of 3... maybe im wrong im a noob

You need to re-read the original post. He stated that he is getting the RC 3" leveling kit of which there is no such thing except in name only.

The RC leveling kit and PRG leveling kits only lift the front a maximum of 2.5". You can't get a taller spacer unless it's a custom job or some off brand version if they make one. If he gets the 5100's and/or Pro4X coils along with the 2.5" front leveling kit, the total amount of lift he will get will be greater of course.

I have the Moog Pro4x coils and the 5100's on the bottom setting and the ride and handling is awesome. It just soaks up the bumps and pot holes in the road, but also handles great in turns too. It's a great combination.

You can go to pep boys for the blocks they sell the kit with the blocks and u bolts. Just make sure if you buy they're kit that you get the squared u bolts for the round ones won't work

Don't do a spacer!! I hate mine and wish I hadn't done it. Go with a lifting strut. Bilstein 5100 or pro comp pro runner(jury still out on pro comps).

If you do it right, adding a spacer doesn't affect your ride at all.

I guess where I'm coming from is the money I spent on the spacers should of gone towards bilstein and 08 4x4 coils.. I'm sure most would agree that is a much preferred set up for small lift when you have 04-07 OEM struts. The point I was trying to make was its better to just do new lifting struts, upgraded coils to achieve lift on Pre 08 trucks.

Didn't mean to slam all spacers
If I had a pro 4x I could see doing a 1.5" spacer. But not in the op's case.

you changed your uca's didn't you?

Yes, and a few other things. The money spent though was minimal and worth it. People think it is weird and even some say it can't/shouldn't be done, but I've gone 30k on it no issues.

Yeah, he basically has the RC 3" kit but swapped the RC spacer for a PRG one.
I have RC arms, a PRG spacer, PRG endlinks, and a PRG block. I bought it all local from a guy on base that was deploying :D

I got my RC arms and front Billies (total $350) from another member that decided to go another route, spacer and block came from EBay, end links not needed - did the sway bar delete mod.

30k on the rc arms? That's cool. Your truck looks killer. That gives me an idea. How much lift did that give you? 2.5" spacer on top of oem pro4x strut assembly with rc arms?

#22 ·
30k on that whole set up. That spacer gave me 2.5" of lift, like it should.

So what would be the cheapest and best route for me to acquire a 2.5-3 inch lift/level?? I have a 2004 4x4 offroad as I understand my truck sits a bit higher in the front than other stock T's. (keep in mind i also have to buy new shocks and struts since i still have the original ranchos!!)

RC Arms ($289), 1.5"-2" ebay solid billet aluminum spacer ($55), Bilstein 5100's on the middle setting ($200), Sway bar endlinks ($79), Ebay Rear Block Solid Billet aluminum -size depends on difference from what you do to the front ($65), Rear Bilsteins either 5100's or 5125's ($150-$175) Alignment (give or take $100)

Dont forget also you will be able to run bigger tires which is more inches...

The only thing I can add to what fishn said is get you some longer bump stops. You will need them.

#28 ·
Also could he not get pro4x coils? i know not with the bills and spacer both because of cv's... i didnt know if there were any benefit to getting them...

#29 ·
He could gain a bit from Pro4 coils. The moogs and bills on middle perch would do him some good, but the 1.5" spacer and bills is damn near perfect IMHO. And it is equally as cheap. Different ways of doing it always, but he is gonna be sitting perfect with the typical spacer/5100 combo.
