i have a stant locking gas cap model no. 10508 to prevent peeps from siphoning gas out of my truck. maybe a month after putting it on my engine light comes on. i begin to think it had something to do with my locking gas cap but i take it to the dealer anyway who comfirmed that the code that trigged the engine line was indeed the locking gas cap. they informed me to put my factory gas cap back on because it has a tighter seal. is there anyone that is using a locking gas cap of another brand that doesnt trigger the engine light? i wish titans came with locking gas cap doors!

I have been using the same model Stant cap as yours since August and have had no such issues. I assume you turn it until it clicks at least three times when you put it back on - the instructions emphasized that had to be done. If so, then I think you have a bad cap. Use your factory cap for awhile and if the light is not coming on then try a different Stant.

I had the same issue using a locking Stant cap. Went back to the stock cap and have no more CEL issue. It's definitely not getting a good seal.

Had the same issue.. did the computer reset... hasnt come back yet. If it does I will do an computer reset for the code or get someone to clear it at autozone for free and re tighten my gas cap :)

I've had the Stant locking cap on for 14 months and no lights.

I've been using the same number cap for almost 3 years now and haven't had a problem knock on wood. The local dealer's parts guy said not to use it but there's too many knuckleheads around to not use one...

This is good to know. I was going to get the Stant cap to replace the Fram one I had. I had the Fram locking gas cap on mine and the CEL light came on after a few months. The dealer cleared the code and put the stock one back on and I haven't had a problem since.

I don't know what it is with these aftermarket locking gas caps, but they shouldn't be triggering the CEL light. I always made sure to turn mine at least 5-6 clicks.:dunno:

Sounds like there are a few bad apples in the stant gas cap line.
The one one on my TItan is okay, but the one we put on my son's 1994 Ford Ranger the same day for the same price already came apart and had to be replaced. And the Titan has had a lot more fuel put in it. The replacement on the ranger seems to be okay.

I actually think its how we put it back on to properly seal the cap. When my CEL came on I searched on here and found out how simple the fix was and said oh.. I need to pay more attention with my gas cap.. sometimes we can just be in such a hurry we go too fast? If thats possible.. but knock on wood mine is good still :)
