Long tube headers vs. shortys

What are the differences between the two??? which one can I just bolt on or do I have to weld both???

Actually, you have it backwards. Short primary tubes are more suited to top end where long tubes are more suited to mid/low end. This is balanced with primary tube length and diameter to fine tune them to the rpm in which they will be most beneficial. Long tubes are a bolt in with the shorties needing welding up.

shorties are great for top end tq (which all pre-cammed titans lack) long tubes help out alot on the low and mid range tq :D

I like the low end torque. I guess I'll get the shortys and have a shop install them. I would do it myself, but raising the engine from the mounts, I don't think i want to really mess with that.

Two schools of thought on this.

The guys that did mine did not have to raise the engine off the mounts. The went in through the wheel wells.

But if you did lift the engine, it's a good time to see if your engine mounts are still good!:redblob"

If you're looking for max low end, then you need LT's. LT headers are superior to a ST header in every aspect except for cost. There's no reason not to get a good set of LT headers unless money is that tight and you have access to a welder and know how to weld good. I just got my MIG welder over the weekend and I can weld just about anything I would come across with it.

Ok cool, Long tubes i don't need a welder. Entirely bolt on.

I saw some Pacesetters LT on ebay for 292 that look good. any word on those??

I installed my Nismo LT's a couple of weeks ago. I cant see how you could get the OEM header out without lifting the motor, which is no big deal. I struggled trying to get them out until I raised the motor then they slid out and new ones slid right in. Installing the Nismo Headers is not a tough job, just time consuming. Just make sure you have good six point sockets, breaker bar, cheater bar, and some wobbly extensions. Think about what you are doing, it really isn't that tough. Good Luck!!

Do not get Pacesetter, they have a 3" collector and will kill your torque. The Longtubes are great for the whole RPM range. I know my LT's gave me insane 60' and 1/8th mile times. You have to remember, your exhaust will have as much to do with where your power is as the header. I thought it was the consensus a while back, that on the Titan the Short/long tube was backwards in performance. Meaning shorties were doing better in the low-end. I know Rossi had JBA headers and had a total low-end maniac truck. Thats what he wanted and his low-end was built around his JBA's...Of course, you can't drop much better 60' times on stock tires than I have. I also gained about 2-3 MPH with my LT headers and tune> LT's are much easier on install. Nismo's being the easiest on install. The DT may be just as easy too

HAha!! well I still havent put the onnes you sold me on. I've been driving around with the bald ones. I only drive it 20 mins on Tuesday and Thursday now, so I'm not in dire need. But HOPEFULLYafter July, I will be back burning through tires, and I will let you know!

I think i'm going to go with JBA since I have JBA catback. Does JBA make a bolt on LT???

#28 ·
No...:google:

Nismo's work very well with JBA...Ugh-hum, fastest FST/NA 04-06 non-cammed...The only person I'm wondering who may have had better times then me in an 04-06 in FST non-cammed was Paparyno. I don't know if he had cams or ran NA though. And you have a Nismo CAI!! LOL jk man...go with what you like, JBA's do perform, as do all the headers for our truck except Powerflow

I called 5 different local shops for prices on installing the headers. When I called, I asked "Do you guys install headers?" they all pretty much said "all day, what kind of car?" I told them nissan titan. they said "don't work on that truck" when I asked why, all said because of the lifting the engine and one said they have weak bolts which break into the block. I heard that it could be done without the engine being lifted. if i have to raise the engine i will, i will. what about the bolts are they really weak and break? I know my 91 pathfinder had that issue, when I took the stock exhaust manifolds outs, half the bolts broke into the block. anyone know of a place in southern cali, san fernando valley area that does Titans??? thanks....

Mudfinder: Stillens will bolt on with no welding, but you will have to splice the 02 sensor wiring to get it to reach

I haven't heard of any bolts breaking. I know non broke on any of the guys around here and we have quit a few running headers. Lifting the engine is so easy. I was scared to do it when I heard about it. All you do is loosen 8 bolts and put a 2x4 on a floor jack. Have the 2x4 (or 4x4) between the jack and the motor. Then just lift it up a couple inches. Piece of cake. IMO it wouldn't be worth it doing it without lifting the engine, it would be too hard that way IMO

does the stillen header have to be welded to the exhaust or bolted? If it's bolt on, I'd rather get that and do it myself since I don't have a welder...
