I have been posting in a thread for rev limiting problems and have been told by a couple people my MAF Sensor needs to be replaced. It may need to be replaced, as I have tried cleaning it, Does the code need to be reset in order for the truck to "accept" the sensor so I can determine if cleaning the sensor has fixed my problem? Do I need to do something different?
If not, does anyone know the where abouts or specific brands that should be used to replace the MAF? Looking for a little experience on this one guys help me out if you can thanks.

did the RESETS work?

I just installed the new MAF Sensor before I go to work tomorrow which is about an hourdrive I'll reset and throttle position learn. so far they have not worked but the steps do remove the check engine light:rolleyes:

what was your truck doing? mine goes into a sort of an engine drag.. and the longer I drive it the worse it gets. if I restart the engine it seems to correct the problem at least for a moment...

I'm back again. I replaced the MAF a while back and had every fluid flushed I could think of. I also had the dealer, after the ECU went bad and truck would not run, replace the cats and the ECU. for the last three weeks my truck has been progressively worsening. it is in a shop right now getting tested. from what I have learned, by discussion, the cats may have gone bad again, not sure, no ECU light. The MAF may also be contributing or it could be the ignition system. The only other component not regulated or monitored by the ecu is the fuel pump. so when I hear back from the tech. I'll post another response. Root cause may have been an After Market Oiled Air Filter. That is the only thing I did. if that is not the cause, I'm lost and most likely out about 2K...

My truck is doing the same thing. It wouldn't go past 4000 rpm initially then eventually wouldn't go past 2000 rpm. It's at the dealer now, they think it's the MAF but can't really tell because of the Stillen headers I installed have that little box that tricks the computer into thinking the O2 sensors are ok. I'm going to get a new MAF and I keep you posted if it helps.

I must have dreamt I posted the resolution to my problem. I got my truck out of the shop and after the tech hooked up the scanner provided by Nissan which reads 9 sets of codes versus the other reader. they test drove it and determined the fuel pump was fluctuating in pressure. I dont know if the filter in the pump was contributing or if the pump was overall going bad. However I did notice one specific thing people may look for if they have this type of issue. my gas guage would never indicate I had a full tank of gas. it always indicated, when I would fill it up, that I only had 3/4 tank of gas. After the fuel pump was replaced the gas guage reflected a full tank of gas. this may be one indicator your fuel pump is not working correctly and may need to be diagnosed. I have not had a problem with the truck since the fuel pump was replaced. as a matter of fact it seems to get better mileage, I tried everything from the MAF to complete flushes. It cost me $604.00 to replace the pump.

The fuel pump will not signal a check engine light, among a couple of other things. So remember it has to be driven with the code reader attached in order to analyze the fuel pump.

Just wanted to add that I have a 2006 Titan and I have replaced fuel pump, the starter and the alternator! My gas gauge did some crazy stuff when my alternator was going out the gauge would move only when I filled it and it would never show the gas light so I never knew when I was almost out of gas and every time it would be in a different spot as I drove it! The only other symptoms I had where my battery dying and after I replaced the my battery it still kept dying overnight! After I replaced my alternator my gas gauge returned to normal! As well as my battery!

Thanks for the info. Did they replace just the pump or the whole sending unit? My gas gauge has been acting weird, it could be below the empty line amost over the fuel light and when I fill it up I still have over 4 gallons in the tank. IDK I'm going to try the MAF first and hope it fixes the problem. Thanks again for the update.

Most Titans have a 28 Gallon Fuel Tank. The Warning light comes on when you get down to about 6 Gallons left, so it takes 22 Gallons to fill. You should fill up asap if the light is on. Fuel acts to cool the pump, running real low can cause excessive heat which leads to pump failure. Many have had Pump failures, so be careful on that. Best to fill up while still at or over a 1/4 Tank on the gauge. If the Gauge allowed you to be truly empty when it just began to read "empty" (not just over 4 gallons left), you would not be able to get to the gas station.

I replaced my MAF. I did not notice any change in performance or the issue. I would suggest, if you think it is the MAF, cleaning it first. It's $300. I'll send you mine free of charge, I have two. if it fixes your problem then we will settle that later. if it doesn't then you can send it back. have your truck scanned. it is the only way to really know what the problem is. it needs to be driven with the scanner hooked up. if your gas guage is acting up I'd seriously consider the scan and fuel pump. I put up with that problem for 18 months. I did everything but replace the fuel pump. I replace the fuel pump and I have no problems. It's just a suggestion.

Damn. I wish i had gotten your reply yesterday lol. I went and got a new MAF yesterday and of course this morning on the drive from Rochester to Buffalo it started acting up again. I'm going to take it to my friends shop tomorrow so he can hook it up to his scanner. I'm also going to see if I can return the MAF to the auto parts store. I'm guessing they most likely won't since I used it. I did find the pump for $260.00 on Nissan Parts, NISMO and Nissan Accessories - Courtesyparts.com but, I want to make sure i try the scan first so I don't spend money if I don't need too. Thanks for your help! I thought I was the only one having this problem.

if you do get your engine scanned and they say there are irregularities with your fuel pump will you post your trucks performance before and after the replacement so maybe others will know what too look for?

Other than an ECU reset what are the steps for a volume learn? it sounds similar to a throttle position or the many other learnable measures we can and I have taken but I do not recall a Air Volume learn? if you know the steps could you post them? maybe I can find them on the internet... I'll look!

I hooked the code scanner up and drove around for awhile and was unable to get any codes for the fuel pump. I did however replace my fuel pump anyways. I picked one up at Advance Auto for $172. It totally fixed the problem and my fuel gauge is correct now. I'm going to take the old sending unit apart and take picturess of how much crap was down in the filter to show everyone. Overall the swap wasn't too hard it took my friend and I about an hour to do it. I have that extra MAF if anyone needs one, parts store wouldn't take it back.

I'm glad to hear it is working. where did you get the code reader from? I'd love to see pictures. it would have been really cool if you took pictures of the whole process... think you can do it again and take some lol... glad it's working man! :spam:

I wonder if the filter can be cleaned?

wth??? this thread came back from 2009...lol .. any who, I don't know what codes you have and or what your truck is doing but here is a link to help reset the ecu and get rid of the engine light. How ever the engine light will come back on if the problem has not been fixed. You could also just go to autozone and get the codes read and cleared for free.
