Navigation VSS Wire Switch

I HATE not being able to use the navigation while moving. To correct this Nissan faux pas, I want to put a switch on the VSS wire of the navigation unit, but I'm not sure if I have the correct wire. On a different thread, baseballfanz said that it is the wire: "white with red...pin 28 on the M95 plug" but I don't know where the M95 plug is?? So, attached is a picture of the Nav unit backside. I want to put a switch on the W/R wire connected to the harness but don't know if that is correct.

A better option would be to splice into this wire under the display panel. Does anyone know which wire to splice??? Attached picture shows a possible wire to the Nav unit. Pictures would be much appreciated.

I tapped into the wire at the back of the nav unit under the passenger seat - it was easier to get to. When I get a chance, I will look at my setup and see if you found the right wire.

Edit - Yep, that looks like the right wire.

So all you have to do is put a regular toggle switch inline? If so then why do i see all of these kits for sale for like 30-50 bucks? Are they really selling a 50 dollar switch?

I've heard from others that the switch is all you need, and it makes perfect sense. Switch off when you want to program in a destination, then switch back on to allow tracking of your mileage, speed, etc.

See this link: .infinitifx.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=39&
(I don't have 15 posts and can't post links???, so add the "www" to the front of the link)

Now I just need to confirm the wire before snipping away!

k thanks i got it now, i think the kits that i saw make it where you never have to use a switch. It just totally takes it out so you can input information at anytime without the truck in park and without turning a switch off then back on.

Where are these kits?

Can anyone confirm the correct VSS wire to splice???
Reviving this thread. I am ready to install a switch but want confirmation about the correct wire and location to cut. I have searched 4 different forums w/o a definitive answer.
Top candidate: White wire w/ red stripe on back of Nav unit under pass seat, on M95 plug, pin 28 (where ever that is)..

Need to confirm wire and exact location.

I may cut this wire under the pass seat and see if it works. If so, Ill install a SPST switch. If not, Ill mend the wire and post the results. Anyone see a downside to this experiment?
Not unless the passenger seat doesn't stop ticking after you cut the wire........ :fktardxpl

I'm surprised BBF hasn't been in here yet to answer this. Hey BBF! You out there?

Actually, it looks to me that the white/red wire under the dash is a thicker awg than the white/red wire under the passenger seat. Plus a "signal" wire, such as the VSS, is just that............a signal wire! So the wire doesn't have to be that thick, like the one pictured under the dash.

Did this mod this am before church. Works great. Fast, easy mod. Hardest part was proving that I had the correct wire before cutting. I have an 04 CC, LE. The correct wire (VSS wire) is the white w/ red stripe wire that goes into the grey plug in to the back side of the nav unit under the front pass seat as pictured below.

The 04 plug and wire location are different that those Ive seen posted for Armada, some older Titans, etc.

I bought a tiny toggel switch and mounted it in the corner of the space in the center console (passenger side of the space- across from the swing out cup holder). See Pic. The switch is so amall it tucks into the corner well, and the normal position is to towards the passanger, so if it gets bumped, it will most likely be towards the default position anyway. I feel like this will work well and be out of sight.

Pulled the dvd player/ console bin out to run the wire and mount the switch. Easy install from there. Used a link here for center console cooler to get the idea. Also, downloaded the manual from Nissan for 20$. All downloaded and saved except the "engine control" files kept timing out. Ill try again tomorrow.

Coo........thanx for the pic, clean work too. I think if/when I do this I'll make the switch completely inconspicuous. I'll mount it somewhere inside the arm rest console since I wouldn't need to hit the switch THAT often.

I have already needed the switch once. (The other times, my destination was in the available short list of previous destinations). The are lots of great places to place the switch. I chose a REALLY simple location-hiding the wires and placing the switch all at once.

PS- I used to hunt south of El Paso on the South Side of Lake Amistad (sp). Do you hunt at all? If so, is it still as wild and "native" out there or is it all houses now?

I'm not even exactly sure what lake ur talking about, lol. The only lakes I know about are the Ascarte Park Lake, Elephant Butte, and then the lakes around Ruidoso, NM. Maybe the one you're talkin' about is the one near Horizon?? But naw, I don't hunt mostly due to the fact that my dad didn't so I never got into it. The only kind of huntng I did when I was a younger kid was I would go out to the desert and catch lizards and snakes w/ only sticks and my 2 hands. lol Plus El Paso has grown TREMENDOUSLY, you'd be shocked so my guess is that your old hunting grounds is somebody's driveway now.

Did this question ever get answered? Blueshark's wires are identical to mine so if it is indeed the white wire with red I'll soon have a toggling wife :)

Update 4/6/09...I decided I've spliced enough wires in my time so I took the plunge. I cut the white wire with red and took a test drive. I was able to key in a destination why the GPS thought I was still at home. Side note...I have the Nav that came with the truck and the instant fuel economy and remaining miles left in the tank still functioned as if I never cut the wire. I hope this helps someone as I've been looking for a long, long time.

I'm going to get a SPST toggle shortly and some wire and let you all know how it went. BTW...the initial post in this thread shows the same white with red wire I cut.

Update 4/8/09... I spliced the wire, soldered in the new line to the switch, and mounted the SPST. The switch functions perfectly and now for the best part: no complaints from the wife on how "dumb" it is that she can't program a destination while we're moving :) btw I mounted my switch below the power seat controls on the passenger side (on the non-moving hard plastic). I didn't want to have access to it while driving, not worth the risk in my mind.

See the post # 17 in this thread, and the posts in that area. You will find a great pic of the correct wire I used under the pass seat behind the nav system. EASY MOD to do. Just a 1$ in line switch.

You will also see where I placed the switch- a VERY easy and 100% reliable way to do the switch. I LOVE THIS MOD!

I FINALLY got around to doing this install so I thought I'd post a couple of installed pics. I ordered a plain black round rocker switch off of ebay for like $5 shipped. I didn't really want one of the LED switches because that just requires more wiring.

So this is to confirm that the WHITE/RED wire DOES work!

I could only find one that has the small LED on it and I'd like for it to light up too. Where / what can I tap into to get the juice to light this baby up?
