My Uncle died and he left me his 2018 Titan SL 4x4 night version with 16,000 miles.
I have read about the dreaded number 7 cylinder problem. I have not had any knocks or problems.
I read the TSB and it says the problem is only on the SV models..
I have read all the threads in the forum about this issue and have not been about to
confirm its the SV models only.
Is this the case?
If the SL models do it then I will be selling the truck..
thank you.

no, the tsb said titans/titan xd. there was nothing saying specifically sv had the trouble.

Yes XD your right....So the SV, Pro-4X and the SL are all XD models ..
So I am a candidate for the problem..
Thanks for the info. I'm going to sell it then..
I got 455,000 on my 04 hemi.. never been apart and doesn't even burn oil.
It would upset me if I had to replace a motor at 40,000 or close too
its a great truck too.......... what a waste .. shame on Nissan for not covering out of warranty.

Have cylinders scope and compare 5 and 7 agains others, if they are ok they should remain ok.

Oil injector that improperly seated, but nothing official never came out of nissan, its all stuff we assume fromthe technical service bulletin. Some engines never develop the issue. That direct injection v8 is in use since 2011 I believe, at some point they must of updated something and assembly didn’t get the proper instruction, or someone at the line was rolling out defective engines…

I can't believe you got 400k on a dodge vehicle.

Thats what is messing me up, ha ha ha.

450,000 miles and still running great. dont get me wrong ... the The trucks has been a piece of junk.
Its just the 5.7 Hemi that has been bullet proof.
that is 150 oil changes at $80 each= $12,000 in oil changes..I could have bought 3 engines..
lol

Ok. My dad had a 360 that probably could have went that long but the rest of the truck kept falling apart.

It was the first year they went away from the old square feont ends, 95 or so. The intake, throttle body, and fuel rails said holley on them. I was super impressed when he brought it home and we popped the hood and i saw that.

Even his manual seat quit sliding, ha ha ha. I had to make the piece that connects each side's rail lock out of hanger and put it in place so you could move the seat for and aft.

But that engine and transmission were solid. We could put the backhoe on our trailer and haul it with that truck. It was the 1500 longbed extended cab with the 5.9. It was a towing monster

I saw a old round model Dodge pickups today on my way back home. It's fender wells were eaten completely away with rust +6" each wheel well, doors had a least 3, 4" along the bottoms, tailgate ate up. Other than the rust, it was clean, paint looked okay, rims and tires shined up. Old cowboy and his dog cruising down the road 20 mph slower than everyone else. My guess headed into town for the holidays. I thew him a wave as I passed, I got a slow nod and hat tip in return.

Ironically i had an 03 ram that only started to rust once it started sitting. I have an 06 Charger with the 5.7, no rust at all except all the small things going wrong, like i've cracked two radiators now and my alternator bearing lost all of its grease.

#20 ·
thats good....... I have replaced alternator 3 times.. power steering pump 3 times.... radiator 3 times.. rack and P 4 times.
rebuild the transmission 3 times..list goes on and on . but not a sign of rust anywhere...
I wouldnt even think about rebuilding the transmission on my Nissan though.. i cant even change the oil..cant get the filler tube needed to change the oil..

#21 ·
You have to pump the oil from underneath the transmission to fill and check it. You need a special tool and it aint the same tool and oil for the 7 speed and the 9 speed transmission. Its the most retarded process I have ever seen. I guess its aimed at shops since they have lifts.

Has any put in a detroit truetrac or a posi in the rear end?
or would it clash with the traction control..
A 4x4 without even a rear posi a waist of a 4x4..
I think the Pro had a locker in the rear though..

On the rear end issue, if you have an electronic locking differential you are good. I put a TruTrac on my open ended 4 x 2. It does work better in more adverse road conditions. However,
it does like to fight in turns under acceleration.

#27 ·
you must have the titan pro.. with a stock locking diff..
I dont have the pro. So I have a open diff or peg leg.. A true track is a geared posi that doesn't wear out like a limited slip posi does.
I dont know if they even make one for the new Titans.....It seems there are so few Titans on the road....there are very few custom aftermarket parts.

check the TSB for how the scoring looks. i cannot see your videos to even guess about them.

there is maybe one place that someone found that made a locker for the second generation trucks. some places sell a gearset and locker that is adapted from a d44 using a spacer but one guy who tried it had the bolts back out and destroy his rear end (i think gears and housing). do a search on here and hopefully it shows up so you can read about what he had found available when he chose the spacer route

I have looked there is nothing for aftermarket rear end parts......
cant even find a ring and pinon. let alone a posi or trutrak.
looks like a factory locker from the pro is the only option,
where i launch my boat at is a super steep hill and need a posi for sure.
these trucks have many issues for many reasons..
even checking the scanner my transmission temps are around 240 degrees F. around town.. it wont last. thats not even towing.

Be aware the old rules don't apply to modern transmissions. My 2011 Titan operates within the old paradigm of trans temps, but my wife's 2017 Expedition runs 200-215deg in regular driving. It heats a little more when towing our 6k wakeboat. Newer transmissions are designed to run at higher temps.

I dont know. I have towed cars on a flatbed from other states, many other states away, and pulled my little travel trailer to a few places here in south texas and never had slipping.

My truck came with the trans temp bar gage on the center console. Its not got numbers on it but it always stays in the same range, even towing up ratton pass going to colorado and back
