Longshot but here goes: I found a leak coming from a hose that connects to the neck just above the oil filter. The hose looks very warn and i would like to replace it. If anyone coud shed some light on what specifically this hose is(name and size...guessing 1/2"?) and any preperation or precautions i need to take before replacing it. Really any information would be great. Thanks for your time!

Greetings all,
After much searching i found the culprit for my elusive oil leak. I thought it was coming from what i believe to be the oil cooler hose but as you can see from the picture it is coming from the fixture behind the oil filter. If you guys could shed any light on what may be going on I would appreciate it. I'll be doing a bit of research myself so If i find something ...ill post it. Thanks in advance.

This is REALLY easy to fix yourself if you want. Take off the oil filter and unscrew the bolt/nut you see there. Then you and move the cooler to access the o-ring. It may be easier to remove the hoses to it to get more room. Clean everything off well. Put on the new o-ring and put it back together. Its that easy. You may want to do this when you change the oil so you can use a new oil filter.

BTW get the o-ring from the dealer, i've replaced a few of these on other nissans so they usually have it in stock, G/L

I contacted the Stealership to get the o-ring i need and they want to sell me an entire oil cooler at 250+ dollars. According to them their database does not show an o-ring replacement.

Flewbyu did you ever change the o-ring on a 2004 by chance?

They did offer to sell me a replacement O-Ring that fits an Armada but could not guarantee it would fit.

I never changed one on a titan to be honest, but several maximas. They should have one, you may need to try a different parts guy, or maybe someone here on the site who works for nissan has a part number. I cant see them not having a replacement 0-ring

Greetings all,

I got a chance to find the O-ring and replace the used one. I was a bit worried at first because as i mentioned before the Stealership data base didnt show a replacement oil cooler O-ring for a 2004 Titan. however, their database did show a replacement oil cooler for the measly price of 381.00 plus tax.
The o-ring i got is PART # B1304-43U00 for four dollars and it worked great. when i removed the oil cooler i was releived to find that there was an existing and replaceable gasket. Luckily the one i got fit right in.

thanks all for your help and encouragement!:hi:

This thread fixed my oil leak I've had since the day I got the truck. $5.58 for the O -Ring. However, b/c I pulled the line off the Oil Cooler, I had to buy some AntiFreeze b/c it almost all drained. Still cheap and it looked like that did the trick.

Thanks. I have been looking around trying to confirm that this is the right part number, because the OP is right, the diagram for the oil cooler doesn't even list the gasket!

I will be getting one of these for my 05 Titan. Fix that leak finally!

I've got a buddy who's truck we just looked at today for this same oil cooler o-ring leak. Dealer wanted to replace not just the oil cooler o-ring but the cooler as well. They stated that it was because in the past they'd replace just the o-ring and end up with the same leak and only replacing the whole oil cooler would stop the leak. My buddy asked if they would keep leaking because they didn't replace the relief valve (in SERGEANT7X's diagram it says to replace) and the service writer said there is only the o-ring and the cooler, no replaceable relief valve. At that my friend told the service writer to hold off and not to do it.

Looks like we are going to do this ourselves and I was wondering if we need the relief valve, if it is indeed replaceable and the service writer is clueless, and has anyone had problems getting a new o-ring to seal thereby needing to replace the whole cooler?

Thanks

Truck is an '04 4x4 btw

Thanks for this, I have been searching for what that leak was for months now. I swore that it was maybe a cracked oil cooler and just wasn't ready to shell out $300+ Now this may be a dumb question but do I have to drain the oil when I replace this O-ring? Thanks!

Awesome info. I have tried 2 oil changes with cleaning the underside of the truck thinking it was the oil filter, glad it doesn't appear to be a big deal.

Thanks for the information... Really a big help on something that the dealer could make a killing on but it's an easy fix.. I changed the oil this past weekend but now have to replace this o ring but should be quick and easy also will just top up my oil after.. We will see
Thanks again

You guys rock! I got the gasket and replaced the part in my 05 Titan yesterday. I did not remove any hoses, just twisted them a little to expose the inner face so I could clean the gunk off both mating surfaces (and from the grooves). I can see how someone might *think* that the "new" gasket is oversized, but it actually fits in the groove perfectly once you get it fully inserted.

Anyway, I inserted the new gasket, tightened it down, screwed on a new filter (did an oil/filter change while I was at it) and ran the truck (including revving it up a bit) to see if I could see a leak. Not a DROP! Thanks again!
