My exhaust pipe detached from my muffler the other day. What is the best way to replace this. it broke off flush at the muffler so i don't know how i could reattach a just a exhaust pipe. I'm on a budget so would prefer not getting an entire exhaust system. would it be best to buy a new muffler and an exhaust pipe? suggestions are appreciated. thanks

You could probably get an aftermarket muffler and a section of pipe that you can bolt on yourself. I don't know which muffler to get, but aftermarket will be cheaper than one from Nissan. You can get exhaust clamps at the auto parts store in various sizes.

If the system is starting to rust through though, I would strongly consider a full aftermarket exhaust.

I know you mentioned a tight budget, but for a few bucks more you should consider a CB system. The same thing happened to my 05 T. Count your blessings, sounds like you caught it in time too. Some guys had their wiring harnesses melted when the tailpipe let go.

you could also search your local craigslist and maybe find a low mileage used factory exhaust for sale on the cheap.

If the customer can not afford a new muffler and tail pipe , have cut the other side flange off and bought a $10 dollar reducer from the local Napa, muffler cement and clamped them back together..

thanks for the help guys, i'm a complete newbie when it comes to this stuff. I took some pics of the current exhaust. I'm guessing it would be best to put in a full exhaust system? I'm not a big fan of loud exhaust, i just want something that will last awhile. what do you guys think?

Buy a new cheapie muffler and have them put a turndown on it.

My tailpipe fell off but there was about 3" of the outlet tube remaining to where I could attach a turn down to it (sounds badass too). It appears you are going to have to do what Walrus posted since no outlet tube is remaining. You could always get someone to weld the tailpipe back to the muffler but that muffler looks like it is on it's last leg anyway so might as well spend your money on a new one and do it yourself.

i fixed mine x2 with the $10 quick fix connector but as others said you run the risk of melting your wire harness etc if it fails(i got lucky with mine). i was getting my abs light on and off for a bit. tired of fixing the connector I got the JBA catback and did it right, which was the best investment for $350 shipped. no more ABS issues(coincidence?) and no more repairs(the $10 flex pipe i used kept rotting away). now all stainless and sounds good to me with a mild growl :)
