Tranny Question

...Transmission question, that is...

When I was dropping the boat down the roat ramp, once my back wheel was at the water on the steep incline, I put it in park and set the E-brake to unhook the last strap on the boat so my buddy could back the boat out. Well, when I got back in the truck and took the E-break off, I took it out of Park, and it made the loudest sound when I took it out of park...I'm assuming this is normal and due to me having a big trailer behind me and being on a steep incline taking it out of park. I'm just wondering what this was, and does it happen on all auto's? This is my first automatic to own, my other vehicles have all been manual transmissions. Thanks

Its cause the e-brake on the titan sucks. It doesn't hold the truck so all the pressure gets put on the tranny. I have done the same thing and it sure doesn't sound very good.

Try putting it in neutral, set the E-brake let truck roll back till it "hopefully" stops then go to park.

When ready to go forward, put truck in drive, accelerate slightly, release E-brake.

Ditto that.... I've had the same thing happen numerous times... the brake cannot hold the truck, especially when it's on a hill with a big weight behind it. When I had my 30K service done I asked them to tighten the brake because it didn't work right and they said that's just the way it is... if yours works, consider yourself lucky.

On the boat ramp, I'd engage the parking brake but leave it in drive. It's NOT gonna work it's way up the ramp on idle.

It might if it were steep enough. Hmmm....I'll have to do some experimenting at the ramp in a couple of weeks. My truck won't go either direction over idle if the parking brake is on.

All right, I'll go with the quorum. What else to do for that binding?

It is unlikely that the truck would slip with the brake on.... but if it did.... yikes....

It's funny, this question has come up a lot in this forum... I don't know that it's just ebrake related but more that the tranny is a bit harder than most to pull out of P.... Just today, with this post fresh in my mind, I was on a bit of a hill and my truck made a pretty loud 'thunk' when shifting from park. I guess I normally just ignore it.... I find comfort in the fact that I have a 100K warranty on the tranny...... The entire drivetrain of this truck shakes and shimmies enough to make me wonder sometimes.....

I suppose if it doesn't go out before 100K I might feel a bit better that it will last... I am undecided whether or not I will sell it before then....
