Ok, given you high mileage and the slipping issues... Start by having any OBD2 codes pulled... if none, then have the tranny serviced, dropped pan and complete fluid replacement... Or DIY...
Drain tranny pan, then remove pan bolts, drop the pan and clean it out, check those two magnets for excessive metal shavings (if they are heavily covered, you're clutch pack definitely needs replacing)... While pan is off inspect the screen on the VB for any excessive debris or gunk...
If it visually checks fine, reseal pan and reinstall (do not overtorque pan bolts) Refill tranny with 4qts, start engine and throw it through the gears a few times... while in nuetral, check transmission fluid level and add fluid accordingly, checking level after cycling through gears again until it's within proper level...
If the VB screen is full of crud, you'll want another screen and will need to drop the VB... (You tube has a good video of the VB removal). During the VB removal, you're going to end up draining more fluid from the torque converter so keep a large pan under the tranny... After the VB is off, remove the old filter screen assy and install the new one, again do not over torque the bolts (these will snap easily) Reinstall VB, reinstall pan, fill transmission w/ 6qts then start engine, cycle through gears, check level and fill accordingly...
