U1000 code...did I screw up?

No drive-ability issues. This morning the SES light comes on. So I go to the local Autozone to get the code to make sure it's not serious. Got the U1000 code.

I came here and found some possible answers. I looked and both my battery terminals were very dirty and corroded. I mean filthy...they looked like cauliflower. I removed the battery cables, cleaned the terminals and connectors. The SES is not on anymore after driving 15 miles, no problems.

I have the 100k warranty, but want to avoid being out of service. Anything I need to keep an eye out for?

Thanks for any advice!!!

U1000 is a CAN Communication code. What is means is the communication between 1 or more control units has an open. What you need to do (if the light comes back on) is locate all the ground wires in the engine compartment and clean the terminals. All of the grounds are connected to the body or frame of the truck with 6mm (10 mm hex head) bolts. There are 2 or 3 under the air box and 2 or 3 on the right side almost in the same location. Clean the terminals and where they mount with sand paper. This should take care of your problem. If it doesn't there is a TSB for this code. The TSB is an ECM reprogram.

You shouldn't have to take the dash apart. Just clean the grounds under the hood first. That usually takes care of it. If you want to clean the gounds under the dash just remove the glove box and the panel above the pedals to get to them.

Thanks for the replies....

I drove about 300 miles today between Houston and Lake Charles, LA and no problems. Hopefully the SES stays off and I can keep out of the dealer service dept!

Just in case...I assume this is covered under my Nissan Service Contract? I paid extra for the plan that covers the most components.
