According to what is posted in another forum, EnerSys confirms this is the same thing as the Odyssey in a different case, looks like you saved $110, smart move!
Don't tell me that. And I was having such a good day, feeling smug about what a bad-*** battery I have and how everyone else's sucks.

LAZIEGUY247, I'm sorry to hear about the problem you had with your battery. I'd hate to see you spend money on a new battery, if there is an underlying issue that will manifest itself again. Can you tell me what the parasitic draw is on your truck? This video explains how to measure parasitic draw-

bestatchess, I'm sorry to hear about the problems you had with your battery. What were the symptoms surrounding your battery issues and the battery voltage? Was it replaced under warranty? While the quality of the batteries produced in our Colorado facility was excellent, the degree of automation in our current production process has resulted in even more consistency and reliability. We still still use 99.99% pure lead in all of our batteries and we still use the same quality standards that were in place in Colorado. You can view a video of our production facility here.

If anyone has any questions about our batteries, I'll do my best to answer them.

D34M Blue Top installed August 2005, replaced w/ Odyssey two years later. Symptoms: would not start truck, would not charge. I had another D34M sitting in the garage on a Battery Minder (I was intending to do a dual battery setup) and it went dead after about a year and would not charge.

As far as replacement under warranty, no I didn't even try. I don't want any more of them, thanks.

Wow! Wish we had more trolls (I mean lurkers) like OptimaJim.

Power to run all that automation must be cheaper in Mexico... And passing the saving to us...:zzzz:

Hey OptimaJim, you don't think you should give Americans a fair shot at having a job manufacturing good quality American products?

Jeez man, Made in Mexico and more expensive than ever....thanks a lot.

BTW, at my job we are moving along with getting rid of our US named vendors that manufacture or assemble products outside of USA.

I will no longer buy your product OptimaJim. (I have bought Autozone Mexico batteries, but at $50 it's a much more palatable proposition than paying a premium price for outsourced inferior product)

My D27F was supposed to be delivered today. Checked FedEx.. They are saying it didn't pass customs and is being sent back to Memphis.. SUCKS

bestatchess, I'm sorry to hear you elected not to take advantage of your free warranty replacement. Do you remember the voltage of your battery at the time you were having trouble? The reason I ask, is because many battery chargers will not recognize or charge any battery, if it has been discharged below a specific voltage level. Many of the “bad” batteries returned to us today are just deeply-discharged and work fine, when properly recharged (my wife's truck runs on a “dead” YellowTop returned to us at 7 volts). This is not unique to Optimas, in fact, other manufacturers have dealt with this by simply voiding the warranty on their batteries, if they are found to be discharged below 10 volts. We still honor our warranty on those batteries, but we did create this YouTube video, which explains a parallel charging technique that can recover those batteries-

If you do elect to go to a dual battery setup in the future, those batteries need to be identical in size, age and type.

TurboDA6 (and others), I appreciate your feedback regarding our production facility and will certainly pass it along. If anyone has any other questions or concerns about our products, please don't hesitate to ask.

D27F fits perfect.

which one is the better buy. i am replacing my 2005 oem battery and i need something that is reliable. with the d27f is there any modifications that need to be done.it fits right in? just looking for some input on this one.

Ditto! Same Mfg, slightly better specs than the Odyssey. Cost $190-200 vs $300+ also!

No modifications, direct fit.

Check out ballistic, shorai. I wonder how long it will be before they start building car batteries. I have a shorai in my GSXR750. Weighs 1.5 lbs.

If I remember correctly there are only about 3 battery manufacturers in the use with many different companies private labeling the battery. Optima? In my book overrated and expensive. I paid $75 for my replacment battery at Advance Auto Parts. Here is the amazing part...my truck starts everyday and even did so when we had 2 weeks straight of near 20 below zero weather recently.

Optima is owned by Johnson Controls, but we manufacture all of our own batteries in our own facility and they are the only batteries produced there. We never re-label or re-spec our batteries for any of our retail partners.

Been running a red top Optima for years now. No complaints and a direct fit.

I gotta say we have had great service from a Autozone brand battery in our car. It's lasted more than 5 years, and it was like $50. Hasn't leaked either, which reminds me of the real reason I chose Optima batteries in the past: I would buy a Optima because they don't leak, and I had nice cars that I didn't want to have all rusted out under the hood when a lead acid leaked all over.
For me that was the real reason I paid more for an Optima. And I was going to get one for our Titan, but well....
