Ok, I have the famous exhaust manifold leak. I have 85k on my 2004 truck. I called and reported the issue to Nissan and requested assistance. I also told them about my faulty fuel gauge reading that I have been getting (it doesn't read full, recall was only for 05 + up). They told me today that I needed to take my truck to a Nissan dealer, have it diagnosed, and get a repair estimate. I am then suppose to send the results to them and they will forward the results to the regional office.

My nearest Nissan dealer is approximately 2 hours away. Would I be wasting my time? Has anyone else had luck with Nissan helping out after the warranty expired?

PS: I will probably have to pay the $95 diagnostic fee.

unless you have prior complaints pertaining to this issue and it wasnt fixed then, i doubt they will help. time to get some headers....

idk about the fuel gauge...maybe, just maybe if it shows the same characteristics as the 05+ recall they might. i wouldnt count on it though. wish you luck though

No prior complaints and I am not the original owner. So, I am thinking they are going to flip me the bird.

They're probably going to play hardball because you're over the 80K mile emissions warranty limit. However, some here have had Nissan "goodwill" the repair at no cost to them. You can take a chance and see if they'll fix it under warranty. At the most, you'll be out the "diagnostic fee" and some of your time. I think at only 5k over, they'll probably goodwill the cracked manifolds. However, you will probably have to pay for the fuel sending unit, but that can be done at any good repair shop instead of the stealer.

I agree with the last post. I know it's a two hour ride, and I know you will potentially be dropping $100 on the check, but this is what I think:

1. When I asked my local dealership to see if I had a crack, they told me it would be without charge since there is no "diagnostic" to run per se. They can put it on the lift and will probably hear it easily in a closed bay/shop.

2. If they DO fix it under a good faith type thing, you will save yourself a lot of money and a lot of headache. From what I have read, this is NOT an easy task in your driveway. I don't think it's overly difficult from a brain power point of view, but they are a bi#&ch to get at I'm sure.

Just my opnion is all. Why not call and see if they will charge you a fee first? At least at that point you'll know if you're just out your gas and time.

Well, I guess I will be the test dummy. I drove it to the Nissan dealer today. It is currently being looked at by the technicians. I will let u know the results as soon as Nissan sends me a response. I am pretty sure they will not cover it, but what the heck I am a betting man. Lets see how the dice rolls.

Okay, Erlich Nissan in Greeley, CO. diagnosed the two problems. They said both manifolds are leaking and would cost a grand total of $2016.03 (w/ parts and labor) to fix. They also said the Fuel Level Sender was faulty and would cost a total of $315.33 (w/parts and labor) to fix. This diagnosis cost $95.00. Yes, I already knew what was wrong with the truck, but this was a requirement for them to send off for a Goodwill repair. As a very very small bonus, I made them aware that I was previously getting a P0171 (Lean Left Bank) code, they replaced a missing airbox clip (probably worth .10) and found a dead bug on my MAF sensor. On the bright side, they reset the code, cleaned the MAF sensor, replaced an airbox clip, diagnosed my vehicle, and washed the vehicle for $95.00. So if all else fails at least I got a very little something for $95.00 dollars, beats getting nothing at all.

I returned home and contacted Nissan Customer Service and updated them with the diagnostic info and repair quote. They said that they will send the information to their regional office and said that i would have an answer by tomorrow evening. I will keep you posted. I am pretty sure they are going to flip me the bird, but at least I tried.

I wish you well, fight the good fight, but like others have said, and as you seem to realize, Nissan is under no obligation to provide you anything for free, and they are in the business to make money, so Im not sure why your even attempting this appraoch in the first place.

Well I have a similar story to tell about my tranny. Well my tranny went out at 68141 miles and I was on my way to the Nissan dealer to have them to look at it. Once they looked at my truck they told me that I needed a new tranny at $5643.xx (Parts and Labor)... So I called Consumer Affairs and they told me a Regional Specialist would contact me the following day. She did...:O) But her customer service skills were bad IMO. So after a few days she calls me back to tell me that my claim was denied because I havent had my truck service at the dealer and that I was out of warranty......:O( (Well I had a list of items and the mileage that was on my truck that were replaced under warranty) So I asked can a regional Supervisor call me so I could talk to him/her.....

Well he did call me back. I told him how happy I was with a Nissan product, how I'm a member of a Titan forum and that I plan on buying another Nissan in the near future. But my claim was still denied....:O( So I go out and get a used tranny for my titan since I cant afford a new one. Well yesterday the Regional Specialist called me with an offer that I cant refuse.

So I say try the good will thing and see how it goes. As for me it the process is long but at the end I will have a new tranny.......:O)

I Really Hope Nissan will help cover those repairs for you my friend... keep us updated on this venture... From my own past experience, I had to call Nissan Consumer Affairs pretty much every other day for two weeks before getting reimbursed for a manifold/cat replacement when it blew out and I was under 15k... again, Wish you the Best of Luck! (keep your fingers crossed)

No word yet. It is now 3:30 PM MST and still waiting on a phone call.

@ 03:46 PM I received a call from Nissan and as expected it was a No Go. I am not surprised. Thanks for tuning in....

Thank you for the offer. I actually bought a set of manifolds off a 2008 Armada last week. They should be installed sometime next week. Hopefully everything fits nice and tight. Thanks again. You should post them on TT. Someone will buy them.:teethmast

What is the number that you called for Nissan. I have a number for Nissan Direct and they are about as much help as a hole in a bucket.

I called their 800 number on the website and reported it here. They then contacted the regional office. Their number is 800-647-7261
