How much power is lost running a 37" tire, with BT package. What other affect's would they have on drivetrain, etc tranny?:eek:ldschool

I assume you plan on keeping the stock gears.

The horsepower will be sluggish, your brakes won't work as well & wear out faster, ball joints wear out way faster, your transmission will quit on you much sooner & might not shift at the right time, so it will be hunting for gears, your gas mileage will probably be in the single digits, and tires are more money to replace, plus those wear out faster.

You're probably cutting 25% to 50% of the life & performance off everything just by adding a lift with tires & wheels.

I won't agree with the truck being sluggish. These aren't sluggish trucks. Adding 35's or 37's isn't gonna make it a slug. Will it be slower than it was before, well DUHHH!!! It's got bigger tires on it, of course it's gonna be slower, but not sluggish.

I will agree that the brakes will wear out quicker, there's more rotating mass to stop rolling. I weighed one of my 35" tires and aluminum wheels recently...98 pounds!!! So that's 400# of wheel/tire alone that the brakes have to stop. Going to be more with 37's. My friend who has a stock 02 Ram says this thing still stops better than his truck does though.

I won't agree with the ball joints wearing out WAY faster. Wearing out a tad sooner than if you had normal tires-yes, but not extremely faster. Stop exaggerating.

Yes, the transmission won't shift the same, but it's not like bolting on a set of 37's is gonna cut the life of the transmission in half or even 1/4. It's not gonna cause much harm at all to the transmission really. And with our 5 speed tranny and gobs of torque and horsepower, it's not that great of difference anyway.

The guy is asking about adding 37" tires. I'm sure he's well aware of what they cost.

Just because a tire is a larger diameter, doesn't mean it will wear out faster. Using that logic, the tires on my beater car should last 30000x longer than my 35" tires on my Titan. It's the tread pattern that matters, along with proper rotation, balancing and correct tire pressure.

And as for cutting the life of everything by 25-50%, that's ridiculous. 10-15% at most.

If he's planning on putting 37's on, it'll take a lot of performance parts that are much better, much stronger and have a longer life than the stock parts anyway.

With the Big Tow package there a lower gear set than stock.
Which is even better!!!

You do realize what is involved ($$$) to run 37's???

If i'm exaggerating, you're nitpicking!

Most people don't know what they're getting into & don't know to upgrade things like brakes, tie rods, ball joints, gears, etc. until things start breaking.

I'll be honest though, i've never owned, or known anyone who has owned a lifted Titan. However, I had a 2wd Chevy on 35's w/9" of lift, and what I described is what I experienced, so take that info for whatever you think it's worth.

You are exagerating, yeaa its going to wear more than before but its not going to cut the life in half. Plus they are plenty of brake kits available that will have no problem stopping those 37's.

As for the tranny you cannot compare a titan tranny to a chevy 1/2 tranny their in a different league. I would say it would be a better comparison to compare to titan's tranny to the allison in the duramax.

first there aren't too many owners that have 37s, have had the setup for a long time, and/or are posters on this site. you go for it or you don't. that said, i've been on 37s (the heavy toyo mts too) for almost 1.5 years now and to me, it's still a "fast" truck. does it feel as fast as a stock truck, probably no. will it match the spec numbers of a stock truck, definitely not. but what do you expect when it's lifted high enough to clear 37s and tow all that extra tire weight? mine is a BT with an injen intake and banks monster catback exhaust. i assume you are lifting it so speed shouldn't be a factor. yes, i will get gears when they are finally available as well as install the truetrac i already have. :smileysqu

my buddy has 37" Iroks with 20" rims and fake beadlocks... he has intake TBS JBA headers and catback and it's not a slug for sure... slower than stock maybe but it still moves better than a jeep... mine is sluggish cause of some type of tranny problem and I actually JUST measured my tires and they're 31" LOL just got some 36"s too which is funny cause they measure 35"... hoping to get them on soon, BUT with only a 3" body lift and 2.5" leveling kit... it looks like it'll be tight on my -12 offset moto metals.. I'll definetly post back my findings on the power w/36"s when I finally get them on ;)

You think we can compare our trannys with that?

it still wouldnt be fair but it would be a better comparison over the 1/2 tons chevy's imo.
