Hi all,

I have a 2005 Nissan Titan LE Crew Cab 4x4. I have the roadmaster active suspension installed, LOVE IT.

I am gonna get the newer 2008 spring shackles to be on the safe side, so I don't take a chance on the breaking one.

I need some help from people that have installed them:

  • Anyone done this in the driveway? How did you do it?
  • Should I remove the Roadmaster setup first or can I replace the shackles with them installed?
  • I have the side toolbox compartment, does this have to be removed to get the shackle bolts out? Is it hard to remove side compartment if I do have to?

Also for those who have installed the Roadmaster system, ya have to remove the roller and bolt from the springs, but did you try to put the bolt back at least or leave it out completely.

Thanks!

I have it and installed the shackles after the RAS was installed. Jack up the truck, place jack stands under the frame in front of the rear wheels. Take the wheels off. Support the axle with a floor jack, loosen the springs on the RAS and unbolt the shackles.

You do not have to remove the RAS.

Can't help you here. I don't have the tool box.

Thank you guys, very much!

I am really surprised how bad the frame rusts at all the welds. Crazy!

My shackles on there look ok, but I think it would be best to use the new designed ones for safety.

I did not remove the box completely.
Just undid enough bolts to let it hang down out of my way.
Let me see if I can find the thread where I posted how I did my box.

Awesome! Hey, when you undo the shackle bolts, is there any tension on the spring, or is it easy to maneuver to reattach the new shackle?

It's easy.
Resist the urge to put them in backwards. (the bolts)
They have to go back in the same direction as they came out.
It's not difficult at all.
I did mine all by myself in about an hour.

If you can. get the PRG Shackles. I think they are even better than the 08+ OEM's. Good price too.

For you guys with the RAS system, did you leave the bolt and roller out, or did you try and put back the bolt at least? Right now, I left both the bolt and roller out cause it looks like the bolt would rub?

I did the PRG shackles saturday and didn't remove the wheels. It took about an hour taking my time. I removed the tool box.

I installed the 2008 style shackles today. WOW, they are much heavier duty then the 2005 ones I had. My old ones you can clearly see the seam that is not welded, and the poor couple inch weld that holds it together. These were definitely a ticking time bomb.

I am glad I replaced them. Everything went easy and smooth. Only problem I ran into is trying to get the toolbox side compartment aligned back right. Will finish tomorrow.
