Hey all, new to the truck scene. I've owned 2 Nissan 350z's and a G35 Coupe. I sold my last car 3 weeks before I left for deployment (8 months ago) and I'm about to be back in the states buying a new vehicle early-mid January. I randomly discovered that I could get a Titan with WAY less miles and modded to my liking for less than a 10 year old G35 with over 100,000 miles! So, I find myself here. I'm going to be looking at a few Titans when I get back and I wanted to know some quick pointers or typical things to look out for on a used Titan. What, if any, issues have you guys/gals seen on Titans with 50k-100k miles on them? Do the different years come with different issues? Anything that would raise a red flag to a trained eye? Thanks in advance! Look forward to being a part of the community and hitting up some meets! Hopefully you'll be seeing me in my new ride...

**** it. No need to move it. In fact, I wouldn't ask moderators to do anything via the forum...it has turned out with different results....trust me :) Welcome! have fun. See you around the forum!

Thanks for all the welcomes! I've taken a look at the new ones but I'm trying not to have ANY debt. With the money I've saved on this deployment, I'm paying my wife's Murano off, buying a truck (hopefully) and fully furnishing my new house. I'll definitely run the numbers through the wife but I can't see the down side of getting a 2010 with under 50,000 miles for $13,000...

You are looking in the right year range. Pretty much any Nissan Titan 08 and newer should be a good buy. Nissan corrected most of the issues from the earlier models by then, such as front diff and rear diff issues, brake issues, ECU Relay issue, and such. Loads of information on here, so when you find the truck your are set on buying just start searching for issues that people have had with that year.

Not sure if you will find a 2010 model in the $13k range with 50k miles on it though. In my area of Kansas (FT Riley), my 2004 Crew Cab SE with Off Road Package and Big Tow Package is pulling $14k and sometimes a little more. Good luck in your search and welcome to TT.

If you are buying private or even from a dealer, make sure you inspect the tranny and motor mounts. They tend to break/crack very easily. It is realatively easy to replace yourself with aftermarket mounts of need be. However, the dealer will charge you a fortune to replace. And they will use the same Nissan mounts. Other than that, like someone else posted, most of the bugs have been worked out with recalls. Good Luck.

Thanks for the heads up! I would assume Titans are a lot easier to navigate around than a 350z/G35 so checking and possibly replacing the motor and trans mounts should be relatively easy. You guys do a lot of meets or "track days"? Like I said, I'm REALLY new to the truck world. I tried searching around the South West regional forum with no luck.

Luckily in San Diego, NO ONE wants trucks. I live in the land of the liberal and I've found tons of Titans (really the only truck I bothered looking at) in the $7,000-$14,000 price range with GREAT miles. So we'll see...

There are a few for sale on her in the Buy/Sell Forum. There are at least 2 that have been on a while and the price reduced. Give it a look.

I am not sure where you are in the world, but I have seen a ton, I mean more than I was expecting to see, on Craigslist in different cities. Mainly on the East Coast. May be worth a look. Good Luck.

They have awesome meets in Sandiego. A huge one is coming up in January.

Thanks everyone for the advice and pointers. I'm glad this isn't ANOTHER stagnant automotive forum. I'm going to try finding some info on the San Diego meets. Might not make the January one due to being gone for 9 months and I'm sure the LAST thing the wife wants to do is get right back into meets/shows.

I found that this forum is extremely helpful with anything to do with the T. I have bought a few items and never a problem. A word of advice. If you have an issue with your T. Before you bring it to the dealer and pay inflated prices, there may be a thread that will walk you through a repair or a technicial issue. I learned the hard way. Never again.

Alright thanks for the heads up! I just pulled back in to Hawaii so my deployment is officially over. It'll still be another week or so till I'm back in California though...the anticipation is killing me. Not sure if it's my wife or my new truck that I'm more excited about...j/k (she may read this someday)

You do not even want to joke about that Brother. They never seem to find jokes like that funny. Navy or Marine Corps?

Yeah I know...sadly, she's used to my dumb humor so I'm not too worried about it. I'm in the Navy. USS Benfold DDG-65. We just spent 6 months floating around the Persian Gulf watching the Iranians ballistic missiles blow up on their launch pads then spent the past two weeks floating between Guam and North Korea. THEY are nuts. There are SO MANY Titans in SoCal it's killing me. I really want an 08+ but those keep getting scooped up. I'm talking to a guy whose got a 2006 SE Crew Cab, 70k miles, lifted and he said he'd take $11,500. It's got some ebay exhaust that's leaking and a 12 inch scratch on the bottom of the rear passenger door but I could care less. Dude seems real cool and he said he'd hold on to it for a week 'till I get back (Navy Vet hook-up). Take a peek.

...which leads me to my next question...2x4 vs 4x4. Has anyone actually gotten stuck with the 2x4 and wished they got the 4x4?
You get stuck once and you'll wish you had 4x4. You don't wanna have to get pulled out by one of your buddys, you'll never hear the end of it. I had to pull my brother in laws gmc 2500 4x4 last spring, he got into some deep mud, and every time i see him it's brought up in some capacity lol.
