My trans has been doing some goofy stuff going into and out of 5th gear, not slipping, just a hard downshift from 5th to 2nd, 3rd, or 4th and an upshift to 5th so smooth it's almost impossible to detect. The TCC appears to be functioning like it should. Shifting down from 4th into any gear it works perfectly. It's also a little late 'catching up'....like if I gun it in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd and suddenly let off, it takes a couple seconds to upshift....almost acts like it's in neutral for a couple seconds.

Today I had a chance to pull trans codes, and that's where I found the u1000. My regular code reader won't read it. I hate to think it needs a valve body, but I can't help thinking it does. According to ebay, the TCM is actually the BCM, located under the glove box door. Is that the BCM back there? Ebay has that same box listed as being the TCM.

I'm pretty sure the bcm is on the drivers side, I've been looking at pictures online and the module behind my glove box is said to be the transmission controller.

There's also a chance that my radiator has been done before, I saw signs of that when I was cleaning grounds earlier today. We all know what a replaced radiator could mean.

I wouldn't worry about the pending U1000 code. Every time I reflash the ECU, a pending U1000 code stays in memory for a long time.

But I'm not reflashing anything.

But I am worried. It showed up as a trans code and I have a trans issue. I've left the battery unhooked twice since I got the truck and u1000 is always there.

A U1000 problem is usually a a corroded connector problem or possibly a bad ground on a control module.

That's true, and I've looked at the trans connectors, they're ok. I removed the battery and cleaned all the grounds in that area too. It's going to sit today and overnight with the battery unhooked maybe tomorrow the code will be gone. Judging by the condition of everything so far I'm relly leaning towards a bad tcm.

BCM is body control module located under the driver's footwell area, to the right of the steering column.
TCM is transmission control module located inside the transmission.
U1000 is a can communication error, when one or more of the onboard computer can "see"each other you'll get this code.
Like sudden stated, usually due to a bad grounding. There's even a tsb out for this.

A little update

I think someone before me put in the wrong fluid!

I just did my 2nd spill and fill using Transmax J, and the shifting problem seems to be getting better....no I'm not just getting used to it either. It used to slam when downshifting out of 5th, and now the slam is gone, but it still revs up a little in between gears and lunges forward. For those who don't remember my other trans thread the problem is only when downshifting out of 5th gear between 45 and 75 mph. Leave it 4th, everything functions perfectly.

I'm going to fill and spill it 2 more times, if I lose 80 bucks over the deal, at least I can say I tried.

As for the u1000, who knows. I'm going to buy the scanner that reads those codes and take it from there.
