Can someone help me out and measure the distance from the rubber boot on the output driveshaft to the bast of the driveshaft.
Mine is leaking and have replaced the seal myself once (with mechanic friend) and once by s driveline shop.
I put bilstein struts on the truck and leak started maybe within a month. They are set on the middle perch. Wondering if the spacer would help or not if I don't have a big lift
If you can take a pic that would be awesome. Wondering if maybe there is too much play

This is how it currently looks and is. Notice how there is a 1" section of it that is cleaner then the rest. That's what makes me wonder if it's slid out further then it use to be

I'll try and remember to snap a picture with the tape next to it before my ride tomorrow. My suspension is all factory and at 45k miles right now. That is a picture of the trans output housing and the slip yoke right? Are you 2 or 4wd?

Correct it is the output shaft of the transfer case. My truck is 4wd 06 se with 39,5xx miles. Any help or suggestions is appreciated. Was hoping to go out of town on a hunting trip for five with friends but I have to get this fixed

I measured it to 2.25''. No cleaner area though. Surface rust all the way to the rubber cover.

My center cap is leaking. Any chance of sealing it in place? Brake cleaner and then silicone?

That worked for some, give it a shot.

Didn't work for me, I had to replace it with a new one.

Thanks. I'll give it a try. I'll try to find the same high performance sealants that we use at work. Hopefully I can apply it without having to remove the drive shaft.

I know it's definitely coming from the seal as you can see from this pic below. The fluid runs down the fun and pools till it drops near the drain plug. Being paranoid I drained it again and refilled with same fluid (less then 200miles on fluid) just so I could out new metal washer on the drain plug that I don't do last time.
I looked closer and it looks like it has leaked at some point from the yoke but I'm not sure at what part it's leaking from or don't know what I'm looking for. Here's a pic with me point where there was reside that I wiped off. It blended in with that tar paint stuff that is from the factory

My leak is spraying oil right where you're pointing at. Your yoke seems oily all the way on the outside so it may be that some oil travels there by the wind when you drive and then throws out from the ujoint.

I got the same measurement as you, ~2.25''
.

Thank you for checking. I just dropped it off back at the place that changed the seal and dust boot.
He said it wasn't leaking from the seal but from some place else. He's going to clean it drive it look and repeat see where it's coming from

I tried JB Weld first, figured it's cheap so why not, applied it without removing the drive shaft. It's tight between the yoke and u joint, got it in there the best I could, started leaking again within a couple of days.

If the underside of your truck looks like this, your slip yoke is leaking from the center cap and flinging the transfer case oil around.

Yeah it looked nothing like that. There was a bit of residue but no where near that amount. I have already contacted another shop who specializes in transfer cases and transmission. Over the phone he said the the bushing is bad doesn't matter how many times you replace the seal it will leak. Not sure what bushing he's referring to

Well picked up the truck and guy said he threw up on rack and let it run in gear for 10 min. Found the leak coming from top of transfer case but could not see what it was. After he got a mirror he spotted the leak coming from the very top bolt. He siliconed it and tightened it back up. He was shocked how much it was backed out. I thought i had checked all the bolts but guess I missed that one. So anyone know how many bolts total are in the transfer case?
Thanks again everyone for the help measuring the yoke

Good thing it wasn't the seal again. It sure looked like that. Hope you got the leak fixed for good now.

I'll report back if I get any success with sealing it. I think I need to drain and refill to se how much oil is lost.

Yeah my leak was fixed just in time for my dove hunting trip

I have a good friend from San Diego that I meet in yuma for doves. It's a middle point for both of us
Where is your parents dairy at buckeye? Would love to find a place like that lol. If you ever need a hand taking care of pests let me know.
Have a 17hmr itching to get used again. Did ground squirrels in San Diego in April
