Before I went to the gym tonight I stopped by Barnes and Noble's to see if anything new came out on the magazines about the Silverdo or Tundra...nothing....so I went to go look at Consumer Reports magazine. Being a TITAN owner...I fast forward to the 1/2 pickup sector. My jaw almost dropped seeing that our trucks are graded a -89% in reliability. The Armada graded a -189%. I was like.....WHAT THE HELL??? This kind of threw me off here so now I'm wondering....are they lying??? I've driven my truck with 23,000 miles and on so far and the only thing I had to replace was a radiator cap. So whats the problem here? A blown diff here and there on several Titans....but heck....how does that cut the Titan's reliabilty score down to the negatives??!!?

CR is full of caca de toro!

Their figures are flawed...and are somewhat based on a 2004 Titan...the only one they tested.

Look through some of the other vehicle reliability histories...some are WORSE than what they rated the Titan as...and are recommended.

Notice also the customer satisfaction rating on the Titan....HIGH. What does that tell you...

I've filled out three surveys from CR...the only issue I listed was brake judder on my ex '05 LE CC.

I would not be a bit surprised if some of the info this pinko rag writes about comes from forums like this.

BTW...there are severe brake issues on several Toyota models...you'd think some owners who filled out their "surveys" would have said so. But CR makes no mention of that fact.

It's not the blown differential. Out of all the Titans out there on the road, how many have had the blown diff? 25? 40? 60? Perhaps 100 at the most? That's not much compared to the brake judder which was a widespread problem. At least in the thousands. Most of the '04's and the early '05's had the brake judder issue. The brakes skewed the reliabity results for the '04 models.

The funny thing is I suspect that Consumer Reports will give the '07 Tundra a glowing reliability report even if it basically falls apart after they arrive at the dealer lots.lol!

CR states they never recommend a new to the market vehicle...but that's exactly what they did with the Ridgeline.

Funny thing is...one of their monthly mags around last September or so still had Titan rated highly in their charts.

Then their New Car Buyers Guide appeared...Now the charts told a different story.

CR has had a love affair with Honda and Toyota for years...kinda makes me wonder if there's a bit of payola involved.

BTW...I love my Titan so much I've bought three of them.

I have 17,000 on my Titan with not one issue. That is all I need to know. I looked at CR before buying my Titan. You cannot believe a thing they print. Once I drove the Titan and read how they had fixed the issues I knew it was the truck for me. Real world experience is what I go off of. It is sad that someone would not buy a great truck because of bad information.

Thanks for the info Brace!! Based on this info alone I am selling My Titan today....better yet I will drive it of a cliff...if I can find one in Florida! I am going to by a Jetta now!! I got rid of CR a couple of years ago not because of the Titan news. Because I see all their info skewed. Some thing are ok but the most is hog wash. I get tons of subscription offers still and just throw them away.

I would have to agree with this statement. I have never owned a vehicle that CR or C&D liked and my cars have outlasted all my friends so called superior hondas and toyotas. I always read up on actual consumers reviews of the vehicle. It sucks that so many people take CR as auto scripture.

LOL...man Heli....I tend to just skip your comments because I know they are sarcastic.:jester: But yeah, TROLL's will pull this skeleton out of the closet over and over again and the domestic guys will go to CR for them to reedem themselves thinkings the TITAN sucks. I would have to agree that they only tested the 04 model and not the 06.....vast improvement. But hey....The TITAN was only out for 3 years and this is their first half/ton full size pickup...and they fixed the majority of problems....something the big three havn't been able to do....especially FORD.

BKW hit the nail on the head. Reviews based upon 04's and CR's experience. This mag has been on the shelf several weeks. :crying:

As I posted a couple months ago, JD Power rated the Titans #1 in their 90 day intial quality survey called "APPEAL" or something. It was a 4 or 5 letter acronym for Appearance, Performance, Execution and Layout IIRC. :computern

It was a very broad review from many consumers who have lived with the Titan for awhile and have real first hand knowledge. Hince #1 Pickup Rating!

We've had more problems with my wife's Honda Accord than with my Titan. Funny thing is the Honda only has to take her from home to work and back. The Titan works it's a$$ off.

CR needs to test a new Titan. Their conclusions are outdated. The 04 Titan was a brand new model built in a brand new factory with brand new employees. The worst of all possible combinations. Actually the Titan had few problems and Nissan seems to have addressed them.

At the end of my 3-week salary employee orientation at the Canton plant, the last session was riding with the quality techs that test-drive every vehicle before they are sold. They mentioned that 2006 trucks are a whole lot better in build quality coming off the line than the best 2004 that they can remember. The improvement in initial build quality should go a ways towards dependability and owner satisfaction. It's amazing that the quality techs can feel that much improvement in their test drives over the last few years.

The Titan got a some bad press for the initial builds. Those of us with early 04s probably had a few more issues than later builds. I knew there would be some problems with the first year of a new model but I didn't care. And what car doesn't have some problems with a new design? None of the problems I've had were major issues and all were covered by TSBs/recalls. Its going to take some time to get the scores to where they should be.

Usually when i am in the mood for something funny, it is a split between CR and the comics section of the daily paper.

They are biased against big vehicles and only pro honda and toyota from the import bunch.

LOL!!!:jester: I'm kinda taking a breath now cuz I own an 06 TITAN. But I get scrown looks from my neighboors that one....owns a new Ford F-150 CB...and two....Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi QC. I drive my truck more than any of them...still looks like I just slapped the rims on there and drove it off the lot. Oh yeah, My tonno cover is still mint condition.

they said the same thing about my 02 dodge ram,the truck i traded for my titan. however, in the 2.5 yrs that i had it,i had no problems at all. the 5.9 magnum V8 held up very well and it didnt stay on lot long,it was gone in less than two weeks.

Yeah, CR is mostly full of bull. They said that when the 5.0L Explorer came out, it would drink a lot more gas than the standard 4.0L V6. If that's the case, then it must be a miracle that my '97 Mountaineer was averaging 2 mpg better than the '94 Explorer that I had prior, and both had the tow package. Car and Driver and some of the good truck magazines retest vehicles more often and provide insight that appears to a wider range of readers than the info that appeals to tree-huggers or Honda and Toyota lovers. Oh, wait, they are the tree-hugging Toyota and Honda lovers!

Hi.I guess I am a "troll" and yeah, the consumer report scared me,too.I would have never bought the Titan, but while shopping for a ford,my hubby test drove the Titan. That was it.Unfortunately,it IS the 04 model with all the little bugs.Maybe they have already been addressed on this truck. It has 32,000 miles and today [day 3],the engine light came on.
Anyway,I must admit....I loved it the minute I got into it.It is really a treat after a ford. Will it get the 200,000 milkes of hard work that our ford has gotten [and still getting]? Who knows? But it sure is pretty!
