I am looking to get a 2006 SE titan. There are two trucks available and I wondered which stock radio is better. One comes with the Stock 6 CD changer on the popular package while the other comes with the Fosgate system. Is the stock unit good enough or should I upgrade to the Fosgate system. I am not looking to put in an aftermarket unit for awhile.

The RF has an external amp up under the driver side dash on the firewall and also a sub in a plastic box under the driver seat.

The midline 6 CD has an integrated amplifier section in the HU.

If you want to retain the stock HU and upgrade w/ amp(s), speakers, sub, IMHO, the midline is preferable to the RF HU because you will get better signal levels with an LOC connected at the HU. You can also upgrade the midline with just a sub & amp and do much better than the RF sub. Also, if you are going to yank the HU and go aftermarket, the midline would be better.

As far as keeping the oem stereo completely stock, you would have to listen and make your own choice.

Thanks Bestachess. I have been out of the car audio relm for quite a few years. What is an LOC. If I wanted to add a sub and amp later is there an easy way to add it in a discrete location in a crew cab. I am not looking for huge sound just a good system with nice bass. Also price is an issue.

unless you want to damage your hearing ...you will not be disappointed with the 6 disc system. It sounds great and is very loud and clear.

LOC = Level Output Converter - used to tap the HU to provide RCA connections for an amp. They have 4 channel LOCs to provide connection for a 4 channel amp to drive components. They also have 2 channel LOCs to tap the rear speaker wires for a sub amp.

There are quite a few options on the sub + amp. I think JL has a stealth box, and there are powered subs like bazooka tubes, and there a bunch of boxes that will go under the rear seats. The one thing in common is that all of these are better than the RF sub.

Hearing damage is caused from listening to distortion. My factory system damaged my ears and I was forced to replace everything.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like the Stock CD changer is the way to go. The two trucks are the same price but one has the Fosgate while the other has the stock changer and a sunroof. The one with the stock changer is also silver while the other is deep water blue. Silver is definitely better looking.

I will probably try and put a sub and amp somewhere hidden and hopefully be able to use the rear under the seats for storage. Thanks again for the info.

I just got rid of an Infiniti QX4 that had a factory Bose system in it and I now have the Rockford Fosgate system in the Titan. The QX4 was a '98 and the stereo was FAR superior to the RF. I'm not impressed with it at all in comparison. I definitely wouldn't buy either truck based on the stereo alone. You'll be dissapointed if you're looking for great sound. Just my 2 cents.

Sunroof vs. RF ? That is an easy choice.

Seems pretty easy to me as well. These two trucks are pretty identical except for what I noted above. The most important thing is which truck I can get the best deal on. Thanks for all the info.

I think hearing damage is caused by high dB levels, distorted or not. Years of working in refrigerated trailers with no ear protection has damaged my hearing.

Sorry dude. I was being sarcastic. I am an installer and love busting peoples balls when they use factory components.

Sorry, I should have known. I've seen other posts by you, and thought he doesn't really believe that, does he?
