So the Nissan rep was at our dealer today, and I had to ask him what was up with the front end of the new XE trucks. I asked if they had any plans on changing them back or was it going to be ugly for the rest of the 08 model year. He was just as upset with the change (they were all under the same impression we were, that the XE would have same color front end like all previous years) he said they had a meeting regarding the issue, and Nissan really was trying to make a point that the the XE was to be seen as a work truck (as compared to the W/T Chevy and tundra etc..) they wanted them to stand apart from the SE's so SE owners felt that there trucks would stand out enough from the base model trucks. Well they definitely got what they wanted. They also stated that the PRO-4X package included the painted front end and that shouldn't be confused with the base model truck as well. They had no answers for the non chrome handles and head lights on the SE's (and all trucks) and or if Nissan was going to make a move and change the XE's stying for the 09 model year. Sorry guys but it looks like were going to be stuck with the XE' s ugly mug for another year, so buy up all those 07's while you can. Thanks

After seeing the XE's ungly new front end , I've been noticing that all the manufacturers do this, Dodge, Ford, and Chevy all have a base model with an ugly grey front end, at least the Nissans is painted and clear coated unlike some of the others, but I do agree it looks a lot better matching, and they should at least make it an option if thier not smart enough to change it back.

If I was buying an '08 XE, I would definitely get the Preferred Package to get the aluminum wheels and carry that puppy straight to the body shop to get the grille and bumper painted to match the body.

I think this move will hurt sales, the XE was a perfect fit for entry level buyers. It was nice looking, everything you need in a truck and the big motor. Now its a fugly W/T that is the same price. It is kinda dumb to have a trim that is 4x4 offroad why not just leave it as a package? Also the chrome front section would hide scrathces better than the painted bumper. BTW are the rear bumpers on the pro 4x4 painted or chrome?

the PRO-4X rear bumpers are painted same as body color. that they did right, but come on... they should have done the rest. I think im going to buy another 07 XE smoke and swap the front end off an 08 titan so i get the looks of the 08 without the ugly headlights.

I hate to be critical on a paint scheme, but that thing really is ugly! It is such a waste of good paint, why offend potential customer who would have been happy with the XE. I'm thrilled with mine!

For a work truck, they should go back to their original plan, pre introduction of the Titan. Make an "E" version, that is what they had planned. They really messed up on this move, it'll cost them many sales they never knew about.

^^^Agreed^^^

I think Nissan is wise to place a model exactly in the hot spot for corporate, commercial and work trucks. This is what you will see at job sites and in fleets. If they are going to be competitive in the part of the market where the bread and butter, is, they need to do this.

For those of us who want something upscale, that's what the SE and LE's are for. I look to see Nissan further strip the XE to lower the price. This gets their foot in the door with the companies that buy large volumes of trucks and gets the trucks out there in the heavy use world where they can earn a reputation.

For guys looking for an XE with frills, maybe Nissan could offer a bumper and grill option rather than making every one of the XE's "prettier" than Ford and Chevy and Dodge -- that does not matter to people buying work trucks and fleet vehicles.

Just one opinion. I hope no one takes offense.

I quoted the same thing in another '08 Titan thread...Nissan would not want to confuse the base XE with the PRO-4X truck scheme. But remember '05 Titan guys, they started out '05 SE's with charcoal wheels, and changed back to silver by '06 MY....My first Titan was an XE and I liked the monochrome finish. Maybe Nissan will listen to their customers...."misslelau

With all due respect, understanding that Nissan is trying to differentiate the base model from the rest of the line, why that bumper color? Charcoal and majestic blue looks like an old guy wearing a blue suit with brown shoes. Black suit and brown shoes, white suit and brown shoes, what color body does this charcoal work with? Black or slate bumper might make more sense, but what makes this so ugly is the brown/gold tone to it, a hue that is not present on any of the paint colors.

If Nissan wants a "work truck", then hurry up and offer an XE (gas) 6 cylinder model with the 'fugly' colored front end. Then, the next step up would be the Endurance with color matching front end.
And of course, the other new model would be the Titan SE-R Edition. Upgraded stereo, lower stance, SC'd(!!) headers with duals exhaust.:upsidedow

We have not made any in a while, the color did not go over well

I agree with you all too. It's ugly, but it makes sense (to some point) for Nissan. I see a lot of XEs on the road and those have a lower profit margin than the SE or LE. If you think about it, they add a couple hundred dollars of extra parts and charge a couple thousand more. By directing the average joe away from the base model (by uglifying it) they've done two things. They created a vehicle that looks like a fleet model and will hopefully attract more business purchases and they get more money out of everyone else.

Exactly! I didn't WANT an SE, it had features I couldn't use or want (No garage, already know where North is, etc). My XE CC BT Pop Pkg is a wonderful truck, no regrets about buying it at all! No need to mess up the fine heritage of a beautiful Monochrome XE instead of introducing an E or W/T version for the Work truck, I don't see the Pro 4X as having anything to do with this "ugly" issue. Hope they run out of paint very soon. :) I was going to but a used F150 before I discovered Nissan made something called a Titan! A Toyota salesguy had to tell me about it!

i think an e model is a great idea...

i also think offering the fronties motor in a titan chassis isn't such a bad idea either. from an employer standpoint you wouldn't have to worry about your employees out hot rodding around in the v8 titan while doing goffer chores.

you could have a nice parts runner in a v6 kc, if you could get it in the short bed version, but now we're adding a new chassis to the line up..

do they have an E model in frontiers?
