so your saying the fj will perform better than the rubi off road, what about the front sway bar on the rubi, isnt that a big plus for off roading
ummm, a sway bar on a rubicon only helps it from swaying obsessively, not aide it in offroading. you put two drivers of the same skill level of offroading/rockclimbing, the FJ will win hands down everytime. the FJ is packed with gizmos that aide in maximum traction at all times, anti-slip, the whole nine yards. its a great offroading vehicle for those that want to be able to go anywhere, any time and not have to worry about developing skills like most hardcore jeep enthusiasts do. i'd rather have a rubicon over the FJ but it would be fun to be able to get thru just about anything thanks to technology.

I have an Idea, It just so happens I know where to find a one owner 1979 Jeep, Golden Eagle Levi edition with the AMC 304 CI V8 and 16000 original miles on it. Needs to have belts, hoses, tires and a carb job along with fuel system cleanup. This fine Jeep can be had for 5500.00, Interested?

thats a big price difference, a 140,000 dollar vehicle compared to a 24,000 dollar vehicle....

well of course not new.... go look on ebay and look at the prices... you can get one anywhere from 15k to 130k

the fj is awesome, remember the old toyotas and how good those were ??? well this is the same just 2007... i dont know much about jeeps but whats this sway bar your talking about.. ive heard you say sway bar like 5 times in this thread....

The Rubicon has an electronic, automatic disconnecting front sway bar. I believe it can only be disconnected in 4Lo and automatically re-engages at like 18mph or something like that.

I'd take this FJ before the H3, that's for sure... if Toyota was smarter, they'd have made a version with a soft top.

I might be a little biased seeing how I own an '04 Wrangler but I'd take the Rubi over the H3 in a heartbeat. Like many here, the only Hummer on my list would be an original military surplus. Every since GM took over the line, they have been nothing more than marketing hype with a high dollar price tag that can't offroad worth a crap! For that fact, an H1 is not a great choice for offroading due to it's width although it may be able to take down trees vs. navigating through them like most offroaders do! :D

In regards to the sway bar....the nice thing about them is you can disconnect them so you can gain more flex when offroading. On the TJ and LJ models you can install quick disconnects so you literally pull a pin and reposition the sway bars out of harms way while you offroad. When you are done, you put things back in position and reattach the sway bars so you have better stability on the pavement. I did notice the newer '07+ models have the automatic sway bar disconnects...sounds interesting.

TJ = '97 to '06 Jeep Wranglers (Rubi, Sport, X or SE model) with a standard wheelbase

LJ = '04' to '06 Jeep Wranglers (Rubi or Unlimited/Sport model) with an extended wheel base. LJ is the coined phrase within the Jeep community and not the actual body code used by Jeep.

In regards to the FJ Cruisers...do some research...they are one of the most ridiculed vehicles for having a great ancestor line but being crap on the trails. Personally I kind of like their bold looks, but it's not for everyone. I haven't taken one offroad so I can't speak from experience only those reviews I've read. My own opinion is that when I'm offroad I really don't want alot of fancy equipment on a vehicle that can break on me. Making it home is the primary focus, and making it "easy" for people to offroad is just dangerous to some degree. You want people to use their brain so they don't end up thinking they are Superman and then flip their vehicle down a hill they can't make it up because they are on a technology high and false security given by the manufacturer and community.

2006 Rubicon Unlimited will crap on a H3 or a FJ ( new or old) Off Road

Arizona its all about the rocks, you need ARTICULATION !

FJ = IFS up front => no articulation....and weaker...

H3 = IFS and Leaf rears = Double no articulation.

then you need Lockers for the real nasty stuff...

Rubicon = Rear AND Front Air / Selectable Lockers. super nice..

The sway bar thing is to disconnect it for more articulation off road. Usually through Quick Disconnects, but new Rubis have it easier...

Electronic Traction Control, Slip Control is limited use in Lo-Range...they usually depend on a speed difference from the ABS. In slow stuff it is always too late to help much.

The best Off-Road prowess....Rubicon all the way....then FJ, then H3.

my 2 Cents.
