Hey guys,

My overhead console is falling apart, two of the bigger storage compartments are broken and the back piece with the radio is starting to hang down.

My question is does anyone know where to get these pieces? I took my truck to the dealer and I'm sure they are going to charge me my first born.

What do you need and what color? If it's tan, I think I have one of the bins sitting in my garage still.

If you want, I can check and see if I have the bin at home still and if I do, I'll send it to you if you pay shipping. It's just the bin, not the whole console.

Ya my rear overhead consol is hanging down too...looks like the mounts have snapped off. Is there any ways to repair this?

im in the same situation T-Dog..I'm planning on modifyin' it so that it will be flush against the headliner again. The bracket holding the console up is broken, and well as the mounting points on the console itself..where the screws screw into it.

I tried layering up the broken mounts with double sided sticky tape but that didnt work....didnt expect it to either. Any other suggestions? Sorry to tread jack here but sounds like a lot of people are in the same position as us.

The dealer wanted to charge me $1000 for parts and labor. They have lost their freakin minds over there. I found the front piece of the console on E-Bay $50 + $20 for shipping, but I can't find the rear piece anywhere. Think I'm going to order this, thanks though for the offer Bills1974.

Yep...mine was broke too. The dealer replaced it for me under warranty and said that they get alot of them coming in with the same breaks. Must not be made strong enough.

I have an 08,KC, SE, BT with about 34,700 miles but it is out of warranty by about 2 months. The overhead console has been vibrating a bit and I keep nothing in it except for a pair of reading glasses. The last time I pulled them out all kinds of plastic pieces dropped down and the molded plastic areas that the mounting screws went through are almost all broken. I doubt Nissan will give me a new one and checking Nissan Courtesy web sites it is difficult to tell which part I need. I believe I only need the non DVD Bezel which I assume is the outmost frame that is screwed to the roof and then I have to transfer the lights and little panel doors to the new frame? I hope that is correct because the "Bezel" only without dvd was listed around $70 but I think the complete unit is around $400 without DVD which is crazy?
I might remove it and epoxy a piece of metal with fiberglass cloth across the plastic and make new mounting points if I had to pay $400 for this piece of plastic? Has anyone just repaired the ones they have? Mine is a KC and it does not extend rearward past the front seats.

I can see these posts are old, but I have the same issue as well with the rear overhead console. The tabs broke off and I have to buy the entire rear console unit at a price of $400! My Gold Preferred warranty which I'm told is the best warranty I can get does not cover interior trim. This is clearly a defect in product workmanship. Sounds like a class action suit needs to be brought up to force a recall on this.

I agree, mine is getting so annoying! Every bump I go over it jiggles and makes the most annoying creaking noise

I had the exact problems with my 08. After complaing to several different people and supervisors, Nissan finally replaced both consoles. Total cost for parts and labor was around 1200 bucks! My truck had 55,000 miles when this happened.

Mine broke to & was fixed under warranty.

I have the Gold Warranty and was denied too. Rear console in my 08 just starting hanging on the rear driver side one day, then the passenger side fell. I just removed the entire console.

Ricart Parts had just the bezel I needed for sale (part #3 in the pic), but when I ordered it they informed me that Nissan will no longer sale just the bezel and I would have to buy the entire unit.

So my search continues. Hopefully Nissan will fix this part, it is clearly very poorly constructed.

I just found mine cracked tonight. 4 of 5 screw mount locations are cracked or broken like this.

I'm wondering if I couldn't take it down, install a small piece if carbon fiber, re-drill the hole and re-install.

Has anyone worked with carbon fiber before? Would it adhere to the plastic and be strong enough to hold it up?

If by 'carbon fiber' you mean the fake carbon fiber vinyl, or any vinyl for that matter-- yes you can repair. I've repaired holes like this on underside bumper covers using washers and duct tape. Try the washers and duct tape ... if its visible then use a good vinyl definitely use some wide fender washers under one layer for support.

just got mine back from the dealership for this very same thing... covered under warranty. they replaced the entire thing, its like $300+ oddly enough, i was looking at another T on the lot which happened to be an 08-pro 4x and the same thing was broken... very poorly designed. but warranty covered. get it in and they should take care of it... then you can let us know which crappy rental you got! cheers

For the rear overhead console? I've taken mine to two different dealerships and both told me it wasn't covered under warranty. They replaced my front one (with all the storage compartments) under warranty because it was cracked in the screws like 450xDaD's.

I've been trying to get my hands on the rear piece for months. I only need the outer plastic bezel, but Nissan won't sell that $14 piece alone, you have to buy the entire $490 unit. DUMB! I just can't justify spending that much money when I know I only need the cheap piece....if I could only find one.

From what I've seen it's mostly 08's that have this problem. Would be nice if they'd do a mass recall (doubt it'll happen). My guess is that the plastic used to make a lot of the consoles that year was a bad batch. When I took mine down it was brittle as ****.

I'm ordering my carbon fiber kit today. Complete with cloth, resin and hardener. I'm going to inlay the inside of those compartments where the screws are to build some rigidity in there. I could probably use fender washers but doubt it would distribute the weight enough to stop the cracking. I've got some pretty long spider cracks. I'm waiting for the thing to fall down the next time I hit the railroad crossing. I refuse to pay Nissan $400 for a part they dropped the ball on and I'm out of warranty

I will report around the thanksgiving holiday as I'm on vacation that week and will give me time to tackle it.

I actually took the bin out of mine, laid fiberglass over the whole thing, added a Sony flip down monitor and found a very close textured color that matches to spray it with. Been up and fine for about 40k miles now.

For those of you that have the broken stanchions causing the rear console to sag..I have found a fix!! (and have been holding out on you guys for about a 8 months....SORRY!)

When I removed the rear console, I found that nearly all my stanchions had been broken. It was somehow wedged into the headliner.

You will need a demel or small orbital sander to sand down the broken stanchions and create a flat surface to mount your new stanchions in place.

This repair requires a small bottle of gorilla glue, 4 screws (your choice), and 4tee nuts. I bought my screws on the longer side to be safe and cut them down to about .5"-.75" for this repair. I bought all the material @ Home Depot for about $10.
Image

Using the black overhead tray, lay it back into place within the bezel to establish your mounting points. Mark them so however your wish. Remove hardware and tray.
Image

Dampen the bezel surface with water as per the directions on the Gorilla glue. Use the glue to adhere the tee nuts in the locations you had marked. Allow glue to dry a few hours before re-installing. I chose Gorilla glue because of its durability and strength...rediculous strength. When dry, it will foam up a bit. I let the glue foam up about an eighth of an inch around the tee nut...so the entire tee nut was engulfed.
