Is that a crazy quote or is it just me? That's the dealer, also got a quote at a local shop for about 450. Both sides. Which is closer to the correct price?:confused

That dealer price is probably to replace the entire axle assembly. They should know about the "kit" to fix the axle seal which includes the seal, bearing and axle shaft, as I recall.

Dang! Firestone did mine 4 years ago for 800 bucks for both sides. I have put 80k on them and no leaks. Knock on wood

I think the dealer replaces the axles cuz I've heard the seals wear a groove in the axles so replacing just the seal is a temporary fix until they wear out again.

At 56k Nissan put a new axle in mine under warranty and the axle was $2800 on the ticket. Its a 2wd open carrier and it leaked again at 115k cost was $580 at the dealer for one side.

Ridiculous, the seal and bearing are about $40 and it is about 2-3 hours work. Even if you put in a new axle shaft, there is no additional labor and the axle itself is only ~$400. Add the cost of new brake pads/parking brake shoes if they got oil soaked at about $100 for the entire rear axle (again, no additional labor, because they have to remove the old to get to the axle seal anyway). I will do one axle seal for $100, plus parts cost for ya.

I might be able to get you a new Nissan axle if you live close with my buddy for less than $1000 lol never go to the dealer if you dont know or ask around.

I just did mine myself a few weeks ago. They upgraded the rear axle shafts to prevent leaks, so I am sure it includes the axle shafts, if not its a rip off. Axle shafts run about $600 a piece, plus labor fluid ect. Still sounds high but not to far off of the mark. Just do it yourself its not hard.

I think I just paid around $500 to do one side by my tech but my wife brought the truck in and I have not reviewed the invoice. My tech has always been very reasonable so hopefully this included both sides based on the quotes on this thread.
