2007 Titan HP?

So, what's different about the 2007 engine? Nothing? Just saw the new commercial. 317hp. Perhaps we always had 317.

Interesting.... So this should pump 07 Titan engine a bit

I just cant believe they waited till 07 to use VVT on this engine...Toyota has used it on the Tundra since 03, maybe even sooner. I dont think there is an engine on the Toyota line that doesnt use valve timing. Does Nissan, or has Nissan used it before?

Not according to Automotive Industries July, 2003 article titled David Vs. Goliath: armageddon for full-size pickup trucks - Cover Story: Nissan Titan Vs. Ford F-150 - Product/Service Evaluation
where they state "the final VK56DE V-8 keeps the light-alloy block and head from the parent Infiniti VK45DE design."
but features that were not kept was "the exotic titanium valves used to sustain the vehicle's 6,700 rpm redlines and variable valve timing."

I was looking through an old issue of Truck Trend (Nov/Dec 2005) where they named the Titan the best truck of 2005. They show the F-150 and Tundra as having VVT but not the Titan.
Also of note is that the Titan has a higher torque output than all 3 of those with VVT. The Q45 has 340 hp @ 6,400 rpm but only 335 lb-ft @ 4,000 rpm.

The VH45DE engine was one of the first eight cylinder engines to come with Variable Valve Timing, called VTC by Nissan. This engine was developed for the Infiniti Q45 sports sedan and was released in November 1989.

The VK45DE replaced the VH45DE. Nissan used the VK45DE as the basis for the VK56DE. When that engine was being developed for the Titan, the decision was made to hold back the VVT feature till a later date. Nissan simply chose not to play all their cards at once.

I got one on order. It should be here next month. I plan on putting on a dyno before I do any work to it. Don't know how soon that will be.

So are you saying they are using the VVT on the Titan now, 'cause I just can't find it in writing anywhere; just message board talk here and there. Wikipedia has a pretty good write up on the Nissan VK engine, but no sources cited.

I bet if you tear both engines down, then you will find that Nissan most likely set the 04-06 VK's up with the ability to install the VTC. Nissan wanted FOrd and the Chevy and dodge to come to the 300+ power first, so Nissan can just bump the power easier than redoing alot of things to the engine. On my 92 sentra, I have VTC on the intake cam. you really notice the power when the JWT cams and ECU were installed. Then the engine behaved totally different. I bet we can also do this with the new VK motor, install cams and with ECU tweeking, that engine will produce alot more power and pass the emissions issues in the future.
